We were in the middle of building a house during that time when everything exploded up. Went ahead with the purchase and gritted our teeth. Things worked out when the housing market recovered and the area we were in became highly desirable. Made enough when we sold to recoup all the high interest and a little more.
Everything has a cycle we just try to ride the wave and survive.

Good thing younger people don't seem too interested in buying their own houses anymore, wait till all this manifests itself in high interest rates again.

I'm running into that also, I had everything booked out a year in advance and was looking last night at switching my two 400+mile trips to something closer but no dice with everything being booked up.

Nothing. Until we reach Weimar Republic hyperinflation I'll be just fine.

We are lucky since we can adjust to the higher rates. And we planned on the raising gas prices. They were predicted last year. 3 refineries are off line in the US. More people are traveling and driving to work than before. Supply and demand as expected. We went through this back in 2008 too.
We aren't changing our plans.

Going to max out the credit cards and lines of credit and get all the cool toys that I always wanted. I also will get a cool new reclining comfy camp chair so I can sit in it and wait and watch for the nuclear bomb to fall out of the sky!

In all seriousness, one of the things that the current times has gotten me to do is buy more meat from the butcher instead of the grocery store. It really stinks going to the store and seeing empty shelves.

Since this is mainly a RV forum I am

not doing as much driving, sightseeing when we get to our destination

driving at a slower speed

staying in less expensive locations like NF campgrounds, etc.

Just generally watching the pennies. We have always been frugal spenders. But I still have to buy tires this year.

Some expenses can't be avoided if I want to RV. Hopefully I don't go broke and can't continue on.

Ok, I'm only 56, young by the forum's standards. The Weimar republic's hyperinflation (Germany)after The Great War was so bad, it probably paved the way for the Nazi party to take control and led to....WWII.

I just got back this afternoon from my local Butcher Shop with a 20# Pork Leg. Will be curing and smoking the Easter Ham.

Brace up when you buy more meat from the butcher. That 20# pork leg used to cost me around $40 just 2 years ago. Today I handed the gal a hundred dollar bill and she gave me $15 back. Ouch.

Better to support a local butcher then the big chain grocery store, I typically tried to shop local and small as much as i could before covid and since then i make it a point to get as much as i can from the small shops.

World events are causing me to watch less news, spend more time with dogs and horses and more time in Nature.

Same number of trips, maybe not as far as usual.

One of my coworkers owns a meat shop, so I’m able to get most of it close to at-cost, but yes that price is going up too. And another coworker raises beef cattle and is giving me a heck of a deal once the weather gets nicer outside. The deal… I come over and help butcher the cow, and I get the meat at his “raising” cost. Equals around $3.50/lb.

3000 miles / 8 mpg = 375 gallons pf fuel

I fuel is up by $2 then the trip cost increase is $750 each way. Are you going to kill a long-planned trip for that much? I'm not going to.
