What do others deem a safe wind speed?

Had to drive home from what may be the last trip of the in a very strong cross wind. 30mph with gusts to 40, I just keep my speed down and things went well, made for a long drive home though. I was just wondering what others find to be an acceptable amount of before pulling over?

Sounds like you did the right thing. Slow down and be careful. I remember a wind storm in central Nevada when I was a kid that was pushing our RV around so bad my dad couldn't hardly keep it on the road. We pulled off the road at an abondond gas station and parked the rig up by the down wind wall to wait out the storm.

We have highway up a mountain noy far from here, and when the wind is 70 mph they advise tractor trailers and other "high profile" vehicles not to use this route. There have been several rigs blown over at this speed. Myself, I would stop when it got uncomfortable to drive. Better late than not at all.

Driving in gusting wind is not a very comfortable feeling. Speaking from experience of a couple years ago. Winds were around 30-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. We were on our way to Boat N RV for our final punchout of issues with the motorhome. The trip didn't start out bad but the closer to Hamburg PA we got the worse it got. When we passed an opening at an exit the gust of wind that hit the side made me fishtail at 55 mph. I have to add it was sleeting by this time. The old ticker skipped a few beats and eventually we got there in one piece. After all the work was completed we left and drove right across the street to the Cabela's Parking lot. I parked the motorhome facing into the wind. We stayed there for over 5 hours, had dinner inside Cabela's. At 10:00 PM I watched the local news and saw the winds were diminishing within the next hour. We waited it out then left for home around 11:30 PM. It was still very windy from time to time but I drove at 50 mph and made it home in about 3-1/2 hours. When it's too windy that you don't feel save, slow down or find a place to wait it out.
