What does everyone most commonly use for Satellite TV( DirecTV)

I currently drive thru the rv parks and see just about everyone having DirectTv Dish on the ground pointing up. I have older euipment for Direct TV,, receivers are (D11's) and i currently want to upgrade to HD receivers such as HR23 or HR24's, DirecTv wants me to upgrade dish and have wine guard install.

So what does everyone else use??????

If your happy with your Direct programming and you can get HD for your home and RV I would stay with Direct...(I have Dish) I would get a automatic system for the RV one that will find the Sats for you. You will have to decide if you want Roof mount or portable. If you park under the trees alot, portlables officers flexibility to where you can place the unit. Roof mounted system is cleaner and a little less hassel...

No self pointer portable available for DTV that gets HD. For DTV HD you will need a slimline dish or a variation of the slimline (to work with SWM) with a tripod. Portable self pointers for DTV will only grab a SD signal. You can purchase a permanent roof mounted self pointer HD unit for DTV but it will set you back $1500+. Lots of us use slimlines, they work great.

In that case I would have to go with Dish. Nothing like HD programming...

We have Dish and use a tailgater.......we love it and would no use anything else. However we do have friends that use Direct and love that as well...problem we see with Direct is lining up the dish and finding the satilights. Good Luck with which ever way you go

We love our Direct-TV. We had a satellite finder installed on our travel trailer when we purchased it. The only problem we ever have is when there are trees blocking our signals.

I just this week installed Direct TV SWM-3 sattelite dish on an FR3 approx $1600 We're going across country this spring so I'm tired of relying on the parks. So far works great. Direct TV sent the boxes for free but charge $6.00 per mo.

i use dish now portable manual I have used direct tv on three auto satellites they were set up direct tv and was easier not to change dish is about half the price that I was paying for direct tv and I think the portable is the best as far as being able to use where their is a lot of trees I am going to buy a tailgater so I don't have to find satellites and you need three on dish to get all the channels depending on your package i carry a reciever from home good luck

We have DirecTV at home so we take one of the DVR's with us. We purchased the Winegard portable white dome unit to use with it. NO, we do not get HD using the Winegard but with 32" tv, the picture is good. We can record shows and if we are going to be stationary for a week or more, will call DirecTV to switch us to the local chanels. We like the dome since we can move it around to get direct line of sight to the satellites and use an app find the best place to put the receiver.

The d11's were SD so you will need a newer Slimline SWM dish and SWM HD DVR as I don't think DTV is issuing anymore HR DVR'S that run off the older slimline dishes. The newer SWM setups don't require the two coax cables per receiver as the older ones did. The newer SWM set up will require a power supply which DTV will provide along with the receiver, the older dish setups drew power from the receivers through the coax to the LNB. As far as I know your old coax should do the job of carrying the signal from the new dish to your new receiver but you will only need to use one coax per receiver vs. two coaxcables on the your old receiver. I would let DTV handle all the details of the install and equipment after my threatening to switch to Dish. They will take care of you and probably give you a temporary discount to get you to stay. Just ask for the retention dept and be prepared to haggle and sign a new two agreement. This should cost you very little if anything to do.

I cancelled the maintenance contract first and then direct TV.

I settled for cable for a while and then went to Dish.

I will stay with dish until my contract runs out and then cancel them. No one takes Fox News from me and gets my money.

I had Direst for 12 years. They have priced themselves out of the market for what I had.
I have a tripod and signal meter to get best signal. I switched to Dish 6 months ago and have been very happy. $20 dollars a month savings on the same package less NFl stations. The main thing I see is that that footprint of Dish is much greater in the Areas I camp, therefore much easier to set up. I mentioned that I carry my bedroom receiver with me camping, the installer gave me a HD dish for the camper. If you do go with Dish you may have to have a discussion about getting the second receiver as this is a conflict of interest with the customer ripoff called the "hopper". Another note, purchased the "sling box". From Dish for $49.95 with free ship. Let's you tie the Dish DVR to the Internet to watch programs you have recorded as well as anything that on the air via the Internet. Some campground restrict wifi use, but then there is the 4G data from most carriers, if there is something you just have to watch. Looking for a phone with bigger screen. Direct had a similar setup, cost more and not all of their receivers support it.
Saw the Dish Tailgater in west TN and with all the trees there, the user relocated it once and it came up very fast. Was concerned about the box walking off, I hear now ther is an alarm system for the same. Again the Dish auto setup box is cheaper than Direct around here anyways.

Either way you go, you will get a good signal. Enjoy. Have to have the local news with the morning coffee.

I feel horrible about having to share our story. We bought the tailgater from dish and as advertised did the pay as you go plan. Every time we would start a new month these two things happened. They would attempt to collect three months from us because they "don't have the pay as you go plan anymore", or the price would jump. Last time, our final time with Dish, they charged us 48$ for one month of service. We intend to give Direct TV a try, but for now we are using an antenna. So very dissatisfied with Dish.

Sara and I use Dish with a tailgater. We love it and have never had a major problem. We have been in places where trees sort of were in the way, but the programming came in with the notation that HD was unavailable turning to the SD equivalent.

I don't know about the pay as you go plan with Dish. We just keep the box turned on because more often than not, when we are home, someone is visiting and stays in the camper (2003 38CKTS). When at home, the camper uses a regular dish and not the tailgater.
