Now thinking about weight distribution, is it better to have your opposing slides 5er with all slides out in order to spread the footprint OR is it better to bring all the slides in to concentrate the weight? What if your slides have slide toppers? Bring them in or not?

Awnings and slides do not make your foot print any wider! If it's going to
be severe storms bring in the slides to help keep your center of gravity closer
to the center of your wheel base. Also slide toppers can be ripped off in high winds. Slides out make you a bigger wind target too.

I would bring the slides in to be aerodynamic and to save the toppers. I had to replace one. Besides, if you want to be a good neighbour, bring the slides in so that the toppers don't make noise when flapping.

Don't know the answer, but I HAVE hitched my camper to the truck for the night at Myrtle Beach when extremely high winds were forecast.

I'm always cautious with leaving the awning out and usually don't when we're away from the RV unless the weather forecast is really solid. Question I have is has anyone found a product that will monitor the wind speed and simply alert the occupants of the coach if it approaches or exceeds a certain wind speed? I don't need it bringing the awning in (wouldn't really trust it) but would like to have an alarm if if hit say 15 mph. Would need to be something that the anemometer part could be mounts permanently most likely. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

We have a Sunseeker 3010DS that we got in January. This is our first RV ever. Our awning is extended when we are at the unit, period. Wind conditions can change quickly anywhere, and I would rather be safe than sorry.

I'm a faithful user of the awning with awning tie down poles from OldCoot and rarely bring my awning in once I'm setup. But in Myrtle Beach, we went without. Just too breezy the whole time.
