The best part for me and the main reason I got the motorhome is meeting up with my fellow retired railroad fishing buddies and fly fishing for trophy trout in my Hobie Pro Angler kayak.Click image for larger version

The best part of camping for us is going with friends and seeing who can fill their coolers with fish. Our trips are planned around sport and subsistence fishing. We hit the high lakes, rivers and streams. With the exception of dipnetting on the Copper River, we have to abide by In-Possession limits, so our group does a fish fry or salmon bake while we're out. We just finished our yearly end of season Halibut Charter on the Kenai. All six of us took home two! We haven't bought fish or seafood in the store in almost 30 years. Our camping season is only 3 months at best, but we have long days. We "recreate", we don't go to sit around, rest, read books, stream video or play tourist. We can do all that at home. Now we have reached the end of our camping season this year, and winter is approaching. It is now time to button things up and switch to winter recreation. Another good year!

The wife and i both work full time but go home to the family farm every day where there is ALWAYS something to do. If we are home on the weekend, we are doing some kind of work. If we are camping, we are not working

The best part is a 4 am wake up. Feed the dog, have a couple cups of coffee then me and the dog head out into the woods for a daylight walk. Daylight in the woods can be pretty special with the wildlife getting active. Then it's back to the motorhome for my breakfast, another coffee and ponder what the rest of the day will bring. Sometimes not much sometimes too much. No schedule is the best part.

New experiences. Going places we have never been before. New breweries nearby. New lakes, new rivers. New campgrounds. Meeting new people. Backing into new spots - especially the challenging ones where the neighbors are drinking coffee or beer and you can see the look on their faces, "He's never going to get in there!" Oh yeah? Watch this! Fifteen minutes later I'm drinking a beer with them, "And I know you thought I wouldn't be able to do that!"

Oh...and watching other people trying to back into their spots and betting the wife if they will get in or not!

I watched the clip. So you tell me which country is the greatest. And please tell me why it is.

This is a thread about the best part of camping. Is your favorite part of camping arguing over which country is the greatest? As a 22 year US army vet (fourth generation vet) with four overseas tours, two of them combat tours, I love my country, trust me, I do. But what are you trying to accomplish here? Convincing a Canadian that your country is better than theirs? How would you respond if the situation were switched? This is a pointless endeavor.

I hear you loud and clear. This is a thread about camping. But wasn't trying to convince anyone of anything. Did you see the clip they talk about? The statement it makes is that the US isn't the greatest but never says which one is. So after someone else led the thread off target, I just asked the next logical question in my mind.

I have all the same military credential as you. I too am entitled to free speech. And I'm okay with moving this topic of discussion to it's own thread.

To answer your question of "How would you respond...". I sent a PM to the original poster and we appear to be good. But thanks for asking.

My favorite thing about camping is Conversation. I get more time and opportunity to talk with my wife. I get to sit by a fire and talk with friends and strangers. On a bike camping trip, several of us adults managed to talk about money, politics and religion, disagree, listen to each other and even learn a thing or two. If everyone could manage this part of camping, the world would be a better place.

What’s your best part of camping?

Whether camping or RVing, I think one of the big attractions for us is only having to pack once at the beginning of the trip, then being able to relax in the same comfortable space at the end of each day.

We took a loop through nine western states this spring. Even though we were living in a space that's smaller than our master bath at home, we were content and ready to just keep going when it came time to wrap up the trip after five weeks on the road.

After many years of travel for work and now being full time RV my favorite thing is no matter how bad to site looks or where I am I know that each night I will be sleeping in my own clean bed and next to my wife.

All this plus not having to mow the lawn or weed the flower beds.

I enjoy the fact that no matter how much needs to be done at home, we are not there to worry about it, so we don't. A cup of joe, early on a cool morning, breathing fresh air...
