What would you do?

Hi all - We are trying to sell our 2010 Wildwood T25KS after deciding it was too big for us. We are not entirely sure about camping to be honest - and when we got a reply offering a swap we thought we'd take a look, this is smaller (which I'm happier about) but quite a bit older, and although not in 'showroom' condition - maybe we could free up some cash at least.

The swap is for a Fleetwood Mallard 2004, 21ft.

We don't know much about any campers - this doesn't look anywhere near the quality of our current one, but then again it's smaller and older, so if we want to release some equity, I guess there's going to be a compromise!

I'm not sure how much the Mallard would be worth, but we thought around 7k Canadian. Ours cost us 19k plus 2k for solar - would a trade in against ours plus 10k sound reasonable? Or should we steer clear of the deal?

If we find we don't like camping - would this be easier to sell, being priced in a more affordable range than the one we have?

Or should we continue advertising? We were offered 15k cash but felt this was too low.

Any advice from all you seasoned campers would be much appreciated.

Mallard, which was part of Fleetwood (made four line of 5th wheels if I remember correctly; Terry, Puma, Terry (which I had), and one other one which I can't think of right now) stopped making trailers last year or so. User rating was so so, but the ten years I had mine, I had less problems than the 17 months I have had the Flagstaff. Wayne

your welcome I think you would be better informed at least a little by checking some kind of guide .

my last tt I traded was nada at about 11,000.00 they offered 9,500.00 for trade I was happy with that .
I didn't have to deal with people trying to haggle me down from 11,000.00
selling it on my own .

I got to say that I'm a little confused with your situation.

In my opinion, if you're waffling on the whole idea of camping with your 2010 Wildcat, your opinion of camping certainly won't improve with the 2004 Mallard.

I have to agree with Dave_Monica. If you don't exactly like camping, what makes you think you're going to like it in a used, antiquated camper that isn't even manufactured anymore (read: replacement parts?). If you don't like camping, why not just sell it outright? I'm confused as well. This was an awful large purchase to make with such uncertainty.

Sorry if I hadn't been very clear - I was wondering if we traded in for a smaller model which was also cheaper - whether we would be able to sell it any easier?

I have posted previously that our family circumstances which had prompted the Wildwood purchase have unfortunately changed. I'm not asking for criticism, just advice.

We don't do much camping, just occasional weekends away (which wasn't the initial plan), and dont like having so much money tied up in something which we sadly can't use as we had hoped.

That info wasn't in this post. Sorry you're not able to use it as much as you planned. I still think selling it outright would be the better idea and then buying a smaller, newer camper. Good luck.

I don't believe that selling the older, smaller camper would be easier, in fact I believe that it would be harder to sell. Always more demand for a late model camper.

OK, that's what I needed to know... being fairly new to the camping scene, we were unsure as to the sellability of the older camper!

If you don't like all that is involved with a 2010 TT, buying a used, older model is going to give you less than a favorable impression of camping. I spent 20+ years in a variety of tents and sleeping arraignments from the ground to air mattresses to cots. Moved to a popup for 12 years and, now, own a hybrid. I sold the popup for the top price of the NADA listing. I sold it to the first buyer. Never sold anything on Craig's List and was quite pleased with the sale. BUT, we kept the popup in great shape. Beware of older campers (wait, that's me)...older travel trailers. Not everyone treats them well, especially, if they were not too into camping, either. Good luck.
