Wheel Bearings
Hi All,
I'm going to be checking and repacking my trailer bearings this month. If I need new bearings and/or seals, is that something I can pick up at NAPA? Or do I have to go thru the dealer for this stuff? Thanks.

PS Salem LE 26TBSS if that makes a difference.

Yes, your local NAPA store should carry them. Mine does.

Our local trailer dealer (non-RV) carries a nice assortment of seals, bearings and cones.
If you repack the inside bearings by hand, then you will probably need the rear seal replaced......you can't get that puppy out without destroying it.

I have just gone through our new Rockwood 8281SS bearings to get ready for the summer. Like Mtnguy says...check to see if you have a non-rv trailer dealer, we have one here that sells farm equipt, flat decks, dump trailers etc...less money than the rv-dealers and they know what you need. I went to a specialty bearing and transmission place and they gave me every seal but the right one, I found they were clueless even when brought in the actual seal. Remember they need to be a double lip seal also. While I was ripping them apart I also replaced the no-name made in China bearings with real made in the USA Timken brand.

FYI-- etrailer.com has a "kit" with both inner and outer bearings
and double lip seal and new washer and cotter pin.
Look here Bearing Kit Trailer Bearings and Races | etrailer.com
They also carry most parts for electric brakes should you need
anything.

Just as an update, I wasn't able to get all the parts a NAPA. The bearings and races are available, but the boat trailer style double lip rear seals are not (NAPA only has a single lip seal available in that size.) So I HAD to go to etailer.com, they had the right seals, and were lower cost to boot. Job done.
