When parking my new 5er for winter
Do I need to put the rear levelers down in winter storage or leave them up? I'm going to park it outside in the elements. I'm thinking leave them up off the ground ,fully retracted . This way the cylinder will not rust. Any suggestions??

Anywhere my 5er is not connected to my truck, I use Auto Level and leave it level.

Ok , I just thought the cylinder would rust. I left my log splitter out side for a long period of time and forgot to retract it and it had some rust on it. Then when I used it the seals went bad

Rust can form on the chrome rod if it is poorly chromed or you had nicked it. Most cylinders can withstand weather without adverse effects.
If you have concerns, there are plenty of spray on rust inhibitors available.

Yes your correct, I didn't think about just greasing them up. So I guess I will set it level ,put some wood under the tires and call it a night

I only have my front legs down on my 5'ver now while in storage.
Four wheels and two legs are all that is really needed on the ground for it to sit for long periods of time.

Plus, if you leave after Christmas for a warmer climate, as we do, you only have to worry about retracting two cylinders with cold, syrupy hydraulic fluid instead of six.

do you live in an area where you have frost?
neighbor this spring had to replace their trailer floor because they set the stabilizer jacks down for the winter. Frost heaved the trailer uneven over 2 winters and destroyed its floor.

I was advised, and use, Silicone Spray. Periodically on legs.

I only leave the front landing gear extended. The four leveling jacks remain stowed and out of the elements and I’ve never had a problem. I always spray silicone lubricant on the extended jacks prior to retraction and give them a wipe down. I believe that keeping them clean helps to protect your seals.
As Capt Mike said if you depart in the dead of winter there’s less stress on the system when you only extend two jacks rather than 6. As a side note if I have to use the jacks in the winter I’ve found that it helps immensely to place a car warmer near the hydraulic pump and reservoir for a few hours. It reduces the stress on the system and makes it work far better when the fluid is warm.
Cheers
