Where do you drain fresh water tank?

I am wondering where most of you drain your fresh water tank when you are leaving a campground. I hesitate to dump it at the site because I don't want to create a muddy mess for the next guy. I have done it at the dump station and just let it flow wherever but yesterday I opened the valve it as I pulled out of the campground and let it pour out as I drove home. I'm not sure what the preferred method is. Thanks for your help!

Some may want to keep some water for a bathroom stop etc. I always drain mine on the road after I have pulled out of the camp site. I agree with you on leaving a puddle of mud for the next camper, I sure wouldn't want to be pulling in to what might not be fresh water.

In Oregon it is a violation and you could be stopped and ticketed. You might want to see if it is the same in your state. I usually wait until we're home and pull the plug while we're washing it.

I like having some water in the tank so we can use the facilities if needed...last time we were out, we were stopped on the highway for 2 hrs with the highway totally shut down due to a fatal car crash, so we were glad to have a functioning toilet....then I typically dump the rest of the tank at home, either on the lawn, or in a bucket and use it for the garden...no waste that way.

We usually keep unused water in the tank after a trip, but when we want to drain it WV rest stops have dump stations and are usually not busy.

There are two rest stops near us - Williamstown & Mineral Wells. We carry a length of old garden hose and direct the tank water down the drain.

We usually dump the rest of the tanks here instead of the campground dump stations just for the convenience of no lines and known state of dump station equipment - was at one in Coshocton, Ohio where the ground was so muddy that we came home with mud to the knees after dumping the tanks. Perhaps from someone dumping their water tanks?

Where do you drain fresh water tank?

When we picked up our new 5th wheel a few years ago, we wanted to drain the excess water the dealer had put in our tank for the walk thru, so we did just what you both said. Well, some super fancy car came up beside us going down the interstate and the driver was shaking his hand and all red faced from apparently yelling at us. Guess some water must have splashed on him or he was afraid it would and upset him. Maybe he thought it was black tank, I don't know, but he was livid. There couldn't have been that much coming out as we had been driving for awhile. Glad this road rage guy wasn't packing. LOL

My camper parking spot at home is gravel. I just dump it there.

Open a faucet and pump it into your grey tank, then dump the grey.

Or flush your toilet until it's empty, then dump the black.

We try to use what is left the last two days, but while I am dumping tanks I drain mine into a bucket and dump it down the sewer not to make a mud pit for the next campers who go into my spot

Those that worry about dumping water on the highway have obviously never been behind a semi load of cattle. You keep your distance.

I generally have less than 1/2 tank when I leave the campground and just drain it in my driveway. It's sloped anyway.

For those of us who camp in winter, please don't dump water on the road when there's a chance of it freezing.

After I dump the trailer, I open the fresh water valve and let it leak out on the highway while travelling. First pit stop, close it up.

I'm actually looking for the valve. I opened the low point valve but nothing came out.

This is my procedure. I never dump anything on the roadway unless it's on the country road between the highway and our house.

If you didn't actually put water in the fresh water tank, that would explain it. If you did, maybe you had the valve open a little and it was leaking out for a while. It is at the bottom of the fresh water tank, not actually a low point valve. Two totally different things.

I have the tank 2/3 full. I'll take another look underneath, I may have overlooked it. Thankyou
