We had been going to the Northwest the past 3 years and then spending Sept and Oct. in the Mountain of Western North Carolina. This year we stayed in the East and went as far north as NE Maine and spent Sept and Oct. in North Carolina again. We actually are in the process of buying a acre in North Carolina with my Nephew that has awesome views and all utilities just need to do a little earthwork. Will Probably spend most of our traveling time there.

Absolutely true. We have stayed in the Dunnellon-Levy County area (Northwest-Central Florida) and it pretty rural, people wise. It is highly recommended by me for people who like horse country, low population areas, with only a few "cold nights".

Hope you like rural (I live real close and love rural)
you got the Sumter county fair grounds (horse and gun shows)
websters flee market (switches from motorcycles, cars, and other junk)
If you head out 50 to old Clermont check out the downtown, they do a nice farmers market on the weekends (forget which day). Any further east and you got a ton of commercial stores which is the new clermont

head north to check out the villages. we eat at Cody's in Brownwood paddock Square when we get a chance.
You got Leesburg to the NE but they role up the sidewalks an night (or someone would steal them).
All around leesburg is Harris Chain of Lakes, I think its like 70K acres of interconnected lakes.

Dave Battelfield Historic site is just NW of you.
if you grew up liking drag racing, check out Big Daddy Don Garlits Museum of Drag racing up on 75 near Ocala.
also up that way is the glass bottom boats in silver springs.
Like Beef? check out these guys Direct from the farmer to you. They take trucks out to many locations as shown on this website. (clermont farmers market is one, but I would try to call in your order if you can because they run out real quick).
Here is a list of Lake County Events (all east of you)

Oh, when I moved south I gave away all my barbecue equipment, I can't come close to what I can guy down here. Our favorite is OakWood Smomkehouse

that should keep you busy and fell fed for a while

We enjoy the change in seasons and the winter time events so we don't "snowbird" but stay right here in the Upper Midwest and enjoy the snow....hoping there will be some this year as wasn't much last year and wasn't very cold either ...never did hit 20 below zero to clear out the sinusus.

:-)

Texas Rio Grande Valley

We don't snowbird, because we live on the upper Texas gulf coast which has pretty mild winters, but we go to South Texas, known in Texas as the Rio Grande valley, in the early part of April just as the snowbirds slowly begin to head north. There are usually spaces beginning to open. It is a great area for birding,

We stay at Benson Palms RV Park in Mission, Texas. Most of the "Winter Texans" as they call them in the valley, seem to have been coming there for years and years.

Even though we only stay for about a few weeks, we love it.

Southern Texas is a lot cheaper and less crowded. Beach sites with full hook ups, can be had for $600 mo. Away from the big cities, most beaches are groomed for driving. Port Aranas and other small towns allow beach boondocking and the fishing is great.

You are close to Mexico. We walk in at Progresso for cheap dentistry and prescriptions are over the counter. Some of my prescriptions cost less for a years supply than my co pay for a month.

We are bikers so we only spend a month at the beach, then move to Bandera in the Hill Country $4-500 mo, for its fantastic riding.

By the way, we are called Winter Texans, not Snow Birds.

I used "Winter Texan" in my post.

Have you been to Boca Chica Beach?
Take Boca Chica Blvd south out of Brownville about 23 miles. You will pass a Border Checkpoint, then the Space X faculty, then there is a berm, drive over it and you will be on the beach, turn right and you can drive to the mouth of the Rio Grande.

Here is a resource

I usually stay on the gulf coast. This year I contacted 23 RV parks before I finally got a site inland around Zephyrhills. Places for long term are haRd this year. One place told me they had a 2 year wait list and another told me they’d oils out me on their cancellation list for a $500.00 down payment. Good luck k hopefully you find something.

Been to Boca several times. The first time 10 years ago, we asked the border patrol if we could boondock there. They said it was legal but not safe. We spent the last 3 years on South Padre, while waiting for our Port A campground to repair the hurricane damage.

Please add your location and maybe even why as there is next year to start planning incase the Florida spot doesn't work out.
Enjoy your trip. You will be next door to us, we stay at the Red Oakes RV Resort at Bushnell, about 10 miles from you. We are there from Feb. 1 till April 1, then back home to Michigan.

We live in Colorado, so head for Arizona in mid-winter. Generally stay in Tucson, but have also tried Casa Grande and Benson. We only visit Phoenix, never stay there--too big, too crowded, too much bumper-to-bumper traffic, too HOT (90 degrees on Presidents Day!).

We tried southern NM, Texas Gulf Coast, and central/northern Florida, but preferred AZ over all of them.. So we keep going back to Tucson.

Summers we stay home--warm days, cool nights, cloudless blue skies, very little rain, humidity <20 percent. What more could you ask?

We spent 10 winters almost on the water in Aransas Pass, Texas and loved it. Some days may get a little cool but never lasts long. A small 128 site park in a small town. The owners were wonderful until they sold and the Gestapo took over for a few years and it wasn't the same. The Gestapo wanted all workers and no Winter Texans. This year the Gestapo is gone and I understand the Winter Texans are coming back. It's a perfect place to Winter.

We do pretty much the reverse. We’ll spend January at home in Fort Walton Beach Florida that’s far enough south for us. We’ll then head west until it warms up then north. Spend the summer in the PNW.

We were in Destin twice in the late 60's before the hurricane hit. The Holiday Inn had a campground on the beach. The hurricane wiped it out.
