Who carries two spares for their camper?

Anyone carry an extra spare tire? I just upgraded the stock tires on my trailer to GYs, and I kept one of them to use as a spare. We're tentatively planning to travel the Trans Taiga Road in Canada next summer, which is remote enough that I plan to take two trailer spares and two TV spares along with tubes just in case. However, given that I have the spare tire (and a rim I plan to mount it to), I might just mount it next to my other spare, because why not?

I kept two tires when I switched over to Goodyear Endurance tires. I got rims for both of them and keep them in the back of my truck. It's a lot easier to grab one from there than to undo the factory spare that's on the underside of the coupler A frame. Since I have the max trailering package, the extra weight is not an issue.

I sometimes carry two spares.

One time I carried three spares and used two.
In that situation I happened to put two new tires and rims on the trailer and decided to just throw the extras in the truck. Up till then never had a flat on the road with a trailer tire.

When I get the new TT I plan to carry two spares. Not too unusual to have debris take out both tires on the same side.

Also had a time that we had several flats on tow vehicles. We were in Maine a long way from a service station that had tires. (Both were bolts that destroyed the tire.) In this case the two vehicles getting flats were the same model so we shared spares on runs to the tire shop.

I used to carry 2 when I had my popup 30 yrs ago. Couldn’t get through a single trip without 1-2 blowouts with the 4.80-8 tires.

Even had a rim split once in one of the nicest areas in Albuquerque. By then, I was already an expert tire changer so 10 minutes and out.

Upgraded to 5.7-8 in Alder, Mt after having yet another blowout. Told the guy what I wanted and he went to Bozeman to get everything I needed.

Donated all my 4.8s to that shop and never had another problem.

We take cross country trips. Never went anywhere without a spare.... But... if I had a flat, I would end up taking hours to get the flat replaced or fixed before continuing our trip. Hence, added another spare tire. Over the last several years I have had to use both spares on a trip about three times.

I do.

Any trips longer than one day away from home, the 2nd spare gets thrown in the bed of the truck.

Always carry two spares. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I spooned on the old Castle Rock onto an extra rim last night. I also ordered a long enough U-bolt to mount the second spare as pictured, though the rear rack will be folded up.

I've had two times since the 1990's i had flats on a trailer. Both times I put on spare and proceeded carefully to the next town with a tire store that could sell me a new tire.

If I were to have another flat before reaching the town at least I'd be closer and my insurance company would have a smaller road service bill.

I might consider a second spare for truck and trailer if driving to Alaska.

Rest of the time I figure I'll just "carry insurance". Much lighter in weight.

I never carry an extra spare. Have never had a flat on the trailer, hope stating this does not jinx me.

I do. Real (mounted) spare is a GYE. Tertiary spare (unmounted) is a China bomb.

If you are in the middle of nowhere, how are you going to install the tubes inside the tires?

Not to mention that many trailer flats end up with little or no intact tire to put the tube in.

A better investment would be a TPMS and a plug kit. I hate plugs but recognize one just might get you to town and get it properly repaired. The TMPS will most likely warn there is a leak before tire destroys itself.

Have TPMS and still carry two spares. Had two blow outs with China Bombs glad I had two. Since then I changed to GY Endurance.

On many trailers, once you blow one tire, the tire next to it has been overloaded and may fail soon. That was my experience. I hate driving without a spare so I always replace the tire as soon as possible., When on the road, it is problematic to find a match for your other tires. My boat trailer and ROO have the same tires, so I just throw both into the back of the truck. For a long trip, where I need more space in the truck, I have mounts on the bumper for both.

Of course, once I upgraded the load range and speed rating on all my trailer tires, I haven't had a flat since.

I carried two, when we went to Alaska a few years back. But, I had no problems on the trip, thanks to my RV repair man, who upgraded the tt to 15" tires.

Before I got a good TPMS, when one tire blew, it would cut the one next to it. After the first time this happened, I carried 2 spares - one on the rim and one off. Came in handy the second time that happened. Since having a TPMS, I no longer cut the second tire because I know well in advance when there is a problem. I still carry 2 spares, now both on the rim.
