Happened to look at the weather report for South Padre Island. I always thought that was a good place to escape winter cold. Temp was 26 when I looked and that was Farenheit, not Celsius.

Here where I live we got the most (lowland) snow in 40 years. Only thing preventing total paralysis here is Covid and the holiday weekend kerping many people off the road.

Looks like the only place with any warm weather is Florida. Even Phoenix and Tucson are in the 40's.

There’s been a ton of postings by members that are asking about freezing possibilities within their rigs that NEVER concerned themselves before.

“Winterizing” has never been in their vocabulary before, but I hope they’ve done something before the damage is done. I always tell people if the temperatures are constantly colder than you would camp in without heaters or furnaces on for hours or days at a time.....you should winterize.

Doesn’t matter if you blow the lines with air or use RV antifreeze, do it.
And don’t forget the P-traps or any outdoor plumbing like outdoor kitchens, outdoor showers. Oh.....and ice makers for your residential fridge if you have them.

Imagine high temp of 7 in Arkansas. Never heard of. 8” snow on the ground now and still snowing. They say could get another 10” wed and thur. Never heard of. Also, this is a fine dry powder snow. Very rare here. We usually get very wet snow if we get snow and never more than 3” at a time. I will say this kind of snow accumilates alot slower.

It's only 79° here today in Orlando. Guess it'll warm up this afternoon to the high of 85°. I guess I'll wait.

Deep South of Louisiana. It's 18 degrees here currently. Very rare occurence indeed.

My driveway, the street in front, and my truck tires for reference on how much we have so far.

I'm glad the rest of the country finally gets to experience a little of what I have to deal with for 2 -3 months every single year.

Give me the 90 degree days where I walk into my trailer and the thermometer reads over 100 anytime over this freezing cold and mountains of snow.

People here with tractors equipped with bucket loaders or rear blades are real popular now. Many are making extra $$ clearing driveways and parking lots.


It's a somewhat hilarious how our City only has 3-4 trucks that can be equipped with plows. And only 21 square miles of city to keep streets open in.

Not that I wish this bizarre weather on anyone that has the means to get out of our frigid neck of the woods...They will most likely be done with it in a few days while we have about 2 months until we're at "partly cloudy with a 50% chance of blizzards".

My late wife was from Wisconsin. When my company moved us to Colorado her "welcome wagon gift" was a blizzard that delivered 24" of snow in one day to our front porch. By the time it ended there was over 5' of drifted snow in the Cul-de-Sac in front of the house.

My wife saw that and said "I moved from Wisconsin to get away from this (expletive deleted)

Of course WI and CO have snow. That's a given. But it's showing up in places that may not have seen freezing temps since the Ice Age

Yup. That'd be us. We found out how quickly these inadequately insulated houses cool down when it's 17 degrees outside and the electricity failed last night.
We have electricity at the moment, but the power grid is failing and it's going down to 10 degrees tonight and the temp isn't supposed to go above freezing til tomorrow afternoon. I don't think I'd like to be in an rv right now.

I'll take some of that 79 degrees, please.

It's sad that when we finally get to April there's still a non-zero chance that it will snow at any point in time.

I still have pictures on my phone from the past 2 years where it snowed on April 17 one year and April 27 another year.

Im currently in Colorado, till the end of the month, last night it was -5 deg outside.

So...after a long day of work yesterday, as luck would have it i get to my place and its 45 degrees....INSIDE. Furnace was plugged up. I got it working around 4:30AM, had to wake up at 8. I should have just stayed in my DX3.

Well don’t be glad. People are dying down here because of rolling blackouts because the electric grid wasn’t meant to handle temps this cold and everyone’s heat pumps using the emergency strips at the same time. People are freezing to death in their homes. Lots and lots of animals that aren’t acclimated to this kind of weather are dying. Thanks.

In Texas, apparently, it's not the grid per say. They use windmills to generate about 25% of their power and the dang things froze up! I saw a news report where they were using drones to get the ice off the blades. I'm also hearing that lots of solar panels are OOO, too much snow covering them.
My SIL in San Antonio has frozen sink pipes, both the hot and cold. They finished a major remodel of the house last spring. I'm hoping they don't have major problems to pay for.

Makes for a sensational story but so far Texas has only reported two deaths from the cold. A mother and child died from carbon monoxide poisoning while running their car in the garage. Tragic but not the death toll you imply in your post.

More people have died in accidents on the highways caused by the widespread storm. I believe 6 died in a 100+ vehicle accident that had no relationship whatsoever to the "power grid".

I'm actually happy for those who are in warmer areas and comfortable. What would change if they were they were in an area that was frozen solid? Just more at risk, that's all.

Have you seen the picture of downtown Houston lit up like a beacon while residents are being asked to unplug appliances to save electricity?

It's not just wind and solar. Natural gas pipelines are freezing and we generate a lot of electricity with nat gas. We don't bury our lines very deep because we don't get the deep freezes that they do up north. We have lots of different energy generating companies (deregulation) and that seems to be a problem with coordination.

People are dying here from freezing and carbon monoxide as they flee their homes to the warmth of their cars, and using local travel centers to charge life saving medical devices. Animals aren't fairing much better.

Electric ignition switches on gas appliances means that gas furnaces, hot water heaters and ovens don't work when the lights go out. They need battery backups. It think I liked pilot lights better. At least with them you could get heat. The people with all electric homes are in big trouble.
