Wingard Travl'r Installation Question

For those that have a Winegard Travl'r, but added it AFTER purchase of unit.......

Other than your selling dealer, who installed it? Or better, who installs these? Is there someone close to factory area of N. Indiana that does it?

Thanks,.

I'm going to be in Indiana close to factory July 11-26. If anyone knows of a quality installer in the area, please pm me.

our antenna was installed by the dealer. but i subsequently learned about a couple of independent rv satellite companies that will install them. and they are mobile and come to you. we used one to obtain all the associated receivers and to establish the satellite account. the guy set everything up and made sure it was working properly. i was impressed. but he is a one guy company that services one area. i have run into similar companies at a couple of large rv rallys. you'd just have to track such a company down in your area.

I looked around the area that I live in and found a shop that installs electronics, radios and sound systems and asked and found one that installed Trav’ler on campers. When the antenna messed up I got a rv dealer to do the install. It’s not easy for me to install a satellite antenna, it’s heavy and kind of hard to handle. I brought the Direct antenna and saved about a hundred bucks. It was $1900 for the antenna and the install. The antenna quit at the rally last year and it was pure luck but we got moved to a spot with full hookups, that way we found out about the guarantee. The Trav’ler has a 12 month labor and antenna but if it’s more they will only pay for the antenna. We had the antenna exactly 12 months to the day

If your an average handy man its a pretty basic DIY project that should take you less than half a day. The hard part is getting the bulky heavy dish assembly up on the roof. Finding locations for the dish and where to drill holes to drop the two cables down is the next problem. Personally I would not install one. Useless if your not parked with a clear view of the southern sky. Really fragile too. In 12 years I have had two of them. Both cost me around a thousand dollars for repair during the time I owned them. RFMogul is a better option if you really think you must have one. In those 12 years I was probsbly able to actually use the Travler maybe a dozen times. The rest of the time I had to resort to my ground based dish assembly.

Installation isn't rocket science really. I know this because I installed my own. Biggist challenge was hoisting it onto the roof.

My FR was 'prewired" for one what that meant was a power/control cord and coax had already been fed to the roof. I had to put coax ends on the cables and screw it down with a bunch of Dicor.

The other end of the power cord was in the bedroom closet, we plugged all that in and the dish started dancing. Once it locked in on all 3 satellites we went and found the coax by the TV and plugged it into the dish box.

All I'm saying is it's fairly straight forward so most anyone should be able to do it especially if it's pre-wired.

I never installed my traveler because of the trees in some campgrounds. I carry mine in the basement of my 5'ver and carry a pallet on my bike rack to set in on so I can move the traveler to a clear line on site.
