Winterizing Step Forgotten

Just finished winterizing my new 2017 Flag Staff 832-IKBS and putting her away in storage for the Winter and realized I forgot to do the outside shower. Can anyone tell me if taking the shower head off and pouring RV antifreeze back down the line while leaving the hot/cold valves open will allow enough antifreeze to protect from freezing - live in Southern Middle Tennessee. I did blow the lines out with 30 psi pressure but never open the outside shower valves.

I just winterized mine yesterday, this is the third season since we bought it new. Yesterday was the first time I ever thought about the outside shower. When I opened the compartment I found the shower head and hose assembly in several pieces. Apparently it froze during previous winters. The only leaks came when I turned the faucets on. I never used it anyway and can't see what I would ever use it for.

Well guess that helps some but still worried about possible damage to the hot/cold valves or even the water lines down inside and under the br sink. I don't use the outside shower either but I need to know if by not adding antifreeze if I might mess something else up with lines freezing. Thanks

Just pull the hose off of the faucet and that will drain the water out of the hose, and if you're that worried about the valve, turn both the Hot and Cold on and off quickly and it will run a wee bit of antifreeze through the valves from the pressure in the lines.

For peace of mind I would blow out the lines again with shower faucets open. Can never tell where there may be a low lying water line.

I'd want to get rid of all the water so I'd definitely go back and do the outside shower lines. I've always used antifreeze for peace of mind knowing everything is protected. I tried draining the lines on our old '99 Coleman popup but it still froze and broke a line in the hand-pump faucet.

My advice... re-pressurize the system (your choice as to how you do that) and pump some antifreeze OUT through the outside shower.

I say your choice as to how you re-pressurize.
If your rig is stored somewhere inconvenient or you've possibly removed the battery, or the antifreeze connection is a PITA to get to... I wouldn't see any reason you couldn't hook a short piece of garden hose to the city water connection, fill the hose with antifreeze, open the outside shower valves and blow on the hose. That would be all it would take to push enough antifreeze through the outside shower to protect it.

Please post pictures if you blow on the hose! Youroo! !

Hey, I thank each of you for the info. Thinking I'm going to blow a little rv antifreeze back thru the shower hose and not worry anymore. Thanks again.

If you have pulled the battery, you can take jumper cables and your vehicle in lieu of lugging battery back. Just use extreme caution that the positive clamp does not contact frame. Clamp the battery terminal wire to the plastic battery box to prevent problems. 15 mins lost for a whole winter of restful sleep small price to pay.

I couldn't stand the idea of a possible busted line especially since we will be headed to Florida middle of January. so I re-pressured the system and put the rv antifreeze through the shower only - worked good, thanks for the encouragement to do it right..
