Wouldn't that be the case with any type of gas engine? I mean, lets be real, I'm not aware of a piece of equipment (at least not one that I own) that when you shut it off it continues to pump the fuel after the fact. The fuel ceasing to flow when you shut it off isn't really a "feature" as much as its just simply a bi product of how these things are engineered/designed.

As Stankbait mentioned...it doesn't sound like it will allow you to cut the fuel while its running so you can run it out of fuel for storage without stale fuel in the lines/carb. This is one of the nice things about the Yamaha....and that's pretty much the whole point of having it.

(Just received my recall notice on my Honda 2000 for "high emissions" from possible fuel line fire. How did they combine those two statements? Anyways, recall is serial number based so I will post my letter as soon as I get it out of the DW's truck.)

I have to think the "high emissions" would come from the burning/melting fuel line and paint along with the rest of the machine if it did catch fire. At least it seems to be one of the scenarios I can think of. Most fires do result in said high emissions so I have to assume they would lean that direction. Hope it works out.

No. But you just take off the access cover and there is a little drain screw on the bottom of the carb bowl. It then drains through a clear plastic hose and out the bottom of the generator. Better than running dry IMO and takes about 60 seconds.

Not trying to be an ass but, How is it better than running it dry?

I think I'd rather have a fuel cutout for that than having to remove an access cover and drain fuel out the bottom (onto the ground? Or have to catch it with a bottle?)

Not saying the Yami is far superior as they are both great units it seems. Just that in my opinion the Yami has a bit better thought out features (fuel shutoff switch, fuel gauge...better looking ). Are those things of dire importance? No, but sure nice to have.

One other thing that may be of help that I have learned about the Yamaha generators is that the fuel feed is strictly gravity. I got the gas caps for the extended run conversion and made a hose to run both off a six gallon boat tank. Saved the original caps for times I do not need extra fuel.

1- Don't forget to open the vent in the fuel tank cap. Duh?
2- Set the tank higher than the generators by placing it on my truck tool box. Generators in truck bed. Be sure to pump the line full with the squeeze bulb. Air trapped in the line stops fuel flow thus the generator. Keep fuel hose straight preventing airlock in hose.
3- The area by the exhaust is HOT. Double Duh?

Just my 2cents. I think fuel shut offs are good. Maybe I use the belts and suspenders approach because I have a fuel shut off on my old Craftsman generator at the shop but I also treat the fuel to prevent separating and any tendency to "gel" .

But, hey, whatever works for you. My dad left his lawn tractors full of gas in Michigan every winter for 50 years and never used anything with no problems. That worked for him..

I ordered the Yamaha EF 3000 iSE with electric start installed from Wise Sales in early December. They told me it was back ordered. Since I ordered it, I discovered that model had been discontinued. Hmmm. I took delivery on Dec 27. They shipped the EF 3000 iSEB! Whoo whoo! I got a better model at a great price. Also, the battery was ready to go. No adding electrolyte. I can't wait for camping season

Follow the directions for break in EXACTLY. I used two oil filled heaters on full to break mine in. Keep the battery on a trickle charger at all times you are storing it. If you ever need to replace the battery MARK THE WIRES!!!!

Putting the wires on the battery in reverse will INSTANTLY destroy your boost board. It IS NOT covered under warranty.

Also the boost board is "water resistant" and not "water proof" If you run (or store) the generator in the rain without a rain cover, it is possible to short out the boost board and is is "partially" potted and not repairable. This "short" was covered under warranty.

Running dry can result in a very lean condition. I just prefer not to do that. I don't think it is good for the motor.

My agency bought literally HUNDREDS of the Honda 2000's and other small "quiet" generators in the opening week of Sandy. Almost every polling place in the impacted areas was supplied with one or two of them for emergency or back-up power. Unfortunately, there was tremendous accountability of these generators going out, but since Election Day was followed the NEXT day by the Nor'Easter, many got moved or retasked without the same meticulous accountability. One of my jobs, now, is getting them all back, getting them inventoried and serviced, and getting the Hondas that are part of the recall separated.....

A second opinion here. My Yamaha is 3 years old now. I have the trifuel modified one (it runs on gas, LNG, and Propane). Per the TriFuel conversion instructions I switch from gasoline to propane by just closed the fuel shutoff valve; run it dry and then open the propane valve; push the start button on my remote and it starts right up.

There IS a clear vinyl line running from the fuel bowl, but my Yamaha instructions say it is for draining the bowl for storage. Since I have gotten used to running it dry for propane use, I just do that when I put it away.

nice setup,,, tri-fuel is super clean and very efficient. the Yamaha premium generators are top of the line and VERY quite.. To eliminate lean burn when running it out of fuel for storage,, this is what I use on ALL engines.
