I must be stupid too

I watched this and I had a much different take on it.

I saw a new RV owner who got a lemon. Failed Curt controller, defective slide installation which caused a lot of damage and other problems. She may not be an RV expert like many of you but none of us are with our first RV.

Her mistake may have been expecting MB quality in the coach and she got much less than that.

I've hit my head several times on the rear slide out when getting into the storage locker directly below. So I guess I'm a slow learner as well.

If she had been gushing about how wonderful her MH was, I suspect some of you would have a different opinion of her. I feel for her and her husband having spent $80K or so of their hard earned money and ending up with a crappy, currently unusable MH.

It appears to me that 99% of the issues with the RV in the video are self inflicted not manufacturing issues........... but what do I know ??????

But I do believe their dealer did them a disservice with a poor PDI........

Failed Curt controller

She stated that it melted. Did you notice that the wires were not secured to anything and were routed right next to the exhaust pipe? Clearly a bad installation, not a Curt Defect.

defective slide installation which caused a lot of damage and other problems.

I would say the the slide damage was obviously due to DRIVING WITH THE SLIDE OUT.

Her mistake may have been expecting MB quality in the coach and she got much less than that.

You are right about that. Sadly, most prospective RV owners are not aware that the chassis and house portions of the build are entirely separate. I have a beautiful Freightliner Chassis under my mediocre Winnebago house.

I've hit my head several times on the rear slide out when getting into the storage locker directly below. So I guess I'm a slow learner as well.

Yes, we have all done that. My observation is that after hitting her head the first time, she should have considered attaching the utilities BEFORE extending the slide. That was her specific complaint. Sliding a section of water pipe insulation or a small swim noodle over the lower lip of a slide allows us to get a soft warning the we are too close.

I would say the the slide damage was obviously due to DRIVING WITH THE SLIDE OUT. And with someone sitting in it WHILE DRIVING.

I'm assuming you have seen the posts on the MBS sub forums about failed Curt taillight controllers? How about the recall/TSB on the W floor plan (like hers) slide? I'm not convinced they drove the vehicle with the slide extended.

I don't like calling people stupid. Instead I say, "I'm not saying you are stupid but that you just have bad luck when it comes to thinking."

It's not clear that they drove with the slide out, but it WOULD explain 12 mpg vs 16 mpg!

She never really did say what happened to the slide out.

She/they might have used the movie RV as a instruction manual.

I have watched the video about 3 times now and I am not too sure they didn't try to drive with the slide out also, but that brings me to my point. What salesperson sold them this "Mercedes" RV? That is obviously what they thought they were getting, and didn't explain the operation and care to them? My opinion is I doubt that she or the significant other have any other RV'ing experience other than this based on their confusion about seating while underway and operation of the generator. The salesman/dealership did them a HUGE disservice by not explaining what the RV can and can't do, what to expect in the way of performance, and mileage before selling it to them. This is the epitome of the don't care just "SELL, SELL, SELL" mentality, without conscience. They are out a LOT of money for all the damage I can see, and the RV is useless until they get it fixed. We don't know what we don't know; and they didn't know anything about RV's before they purchased this unit. NOW they still don't know, are confused, rightfully angry, and will probably never RV again. Which is sad, because we lose a fellow RV'er; and she would brighten up a campsite... just saying.

My take: her lawyer told her to document all the problems that they have had with their new Mercedes RV. Probably suing FR or dealer.
