Palomino Leaking front Bunk

Well the rain, snow and ice has finally left and was able to get out and start cleaning up the new stampede. I found the front bunk had leaked somewhere. I found a small puddle of water in the canvas and the front counter top had a swollen corner. The gasket on the flip down looks fine as well as the gasket on the camper itself. Does anyone have any guidance as to where to look for the leak. the unit has obviously leaked before or was put up wet because the canvas has some old staining

I am not sure I am going to be any help or if our units are the same, but here is where I would look on my Palomino Solaire 147x based on what you said.

Check the gutter above the door and make sure the caulk is good. I think if there was an issue here, water may possibly get under the gutter to the door and then past the gasket.

Check around the lights above the gutter to see if there is a way water is getting in that route. Maybe the caulk between the light and the camper is missing and water is going in that route.

On the interior of my unit, my front speakers and bunk fan are attached to the ceiling near the bunk door to a piece of trim. Does that piece seem wet? Maybe if you are handy and can remove it you could see it from that side to see if it reveals anything. Or if your speakers are there like mine, you could at least drop them down and see if it reveals anything.

Don't know if that is much help but a couple of thoughts....

Thanks for the reply RamsFan1, i found 1 spot on the rain gutter that had about a 3" spot where it could be re caulked but it was on the opposite side of where i found the water, this could be the culprit. I also have two speakers in a box at the front - no moisture here.

It does appear the previous owner siliconed the outside of the canvas to the inside edge of the weather stripping.

Closed the bunk end up and Ran a bead of silicon across the rain gutter and also re sealed the two lights, had a little rain last night and so far so good.

Sure hope that takes care of it for when it's closed up and no leaks when its open. now for washing the outside and removing the stains on the canvas

PXT I purchase the Iosso mold and mildew remover. I just got it the other day and plan on using it this weekend - weather permitting - have never used before. I will try and take before and after pictures to show any difference it makes. I have considerable staining on one bunk that looks like it has been there for some time

Washed the exterior of the canvas this afternoon and have a few small drip leaks.....I am thinking in the sticking as I can see no holes or rips. Also seems to leak down at bottom outside edges where the canvas starts.....where it comes out of end of trailer.


Any recommendations for a water repellant or seam sealer....

well apparently still have weatherstripping or leaky places - took off for the wekeend and had rain a few days before we left and while traveling. When i reached our destination and opened the ends up i had a large puddle on the outside of the canvas. i found the inside to be slightly wet in places but nothing major. can anyone recommend if i need to replace the weatherstripping or maybe new lock down handles? - could they not be closing tightly enough??

Rob,
I think I read someplace on this forum that you can actually over-tighten or put too much padding behind the handle trying to get it to seal more, so I would be careful.
Maybe going with new seals would be good.

Hi all, I am new to this blog and saw this in a google search. I have a Stampede 195 that leaks at the lower right hand corner on the front bunk. Does anyone have any guidance on this? Thanks

Saw your post. It has been a few days, have you found the source of your leak?
Is it leaking when the bunk is open or closed?

Thanks for responding. It leaks either way. And it doesn't leak all the time either. But it leaks most consistently when the bunkend is open and then it gets under our mattress. Still looking for answers. Thanks.

i'm assuming you bought this used.
how long have you had it?
are you sure it's not condensation?

if it's used and therefore the tent seams were seasoned properly, there has to be a hole in the canvas or thread hole leak.

Yes it is used. I don't believe it is condensation because even the plywood under neath the plastic cover material gets wet.
I'm wondering if it is sneaking in where the vertical seal strip meets the bottom horizontal seal strip. Perhaps a bead of caulk connecting the 2 strips might work. Any thoughts?

As Bikendan said, are you sure it is not condensation? We just got back from a trip where there was not a drop of rain and our mattress was a little wet from our first experience with condensation.
Otherwise, look for a hole in the canvas or where the tent attaches.

Condensation can occur under the mattress, especially if it has a fabric bottom.

If you think that area is the culprit, I would think some caulk in the suspect area would be a good idea and I don't see any harm even if that doesn't work.
