It is normal for the fan to kick on and off in the distribution panel.
Its also normal for it to speed up and slow down.
I would be worried when you DON'T vhear it !

Sorry not sure about switch by the door.
Couple of suggestions tho.
Porch light?
Scare light?
Goes to a light that ia burnt out ?
Step light ?

Where exactly is the switch? The switch for my water heater is on the cabinet right as you enter the door. Switches for the awning and lights by your head as you enter on the left.

Welcome to the forum, grantlee! Good to have you here. You might not have a manual even on the web that will help with an older model Surveyor so can you post a pic of your control console?

Maybe someone has one that looks like it and can ID the switch. Otherwise, all of the suggestions above are typical and you'll need to experiment. MAKE SURE that you first have water in the water heater just in case you do have a DSI and this is the control that lights the heater on propane (you don't want to accidentally burn it out).

Here's mine (sorry for the awful pic. I need to update it)

I would have to agree with the answers already given. I have a 2007 24' Surveyor and the fan comes on/off in the distribution box but just for short periods of time and is mostly off. The first switch in my unit as you enter is for the porch light.

If you are not hooked up to shore power, do not leave that porch light on all night.
It will kill a battery. I know because I did it once - accidentally.

I have a Surveyor SV261T, the fan coming on is normal, especially the more stuff you have turned on. As mentioned, the first switch inside the door is the porch light.
