Another FR Recall!

So, for the second time in less than 3 years of ownership, I come home from work today to find a recall notice from Forest River in my mailbox. This time it's for 2015-2016 XLR toyhaulers (no specific models) as well as certain Columbus models, Spartan toyhaulers, and FR3 units, for a "Christianson Industries Fold Up Ladder." It says the ladder has a mounting plate welded to a hinge that may fail due to an incorrect weld. Where would this ladder be? I don't think I have such a ladder--the only ladder on the HFS-5 is the detachable ladder on the outside drivers side. It doesn't look like any of the brackets on that ladder are mounted to any type of hinge. Is this ladder maybe for a bunk bed or something? Thoughts? TIA...

Well, if you don't have a fold up ladder, then carry on and get over it.

A bunk bed is not a fold up ladder...you need to have a beer and chill out...don't think anyone wants to play word games with you.

Not sure what you're trying to say here, but if you don't have anything constructive to add, then don't add anything. I'm trying to find out if this recall pertains to my outside ladder, and you're being a smart *****.

Forest River recalls 2,859 units to fix ladder hinge | RV Daily Report

Looks like only Thunderbolt and Nitro are affected, not Hyper Lites. I didn't think I had a folding ladder anywhere. Looks like everyone got their little love note from FR today...

Here is more info from another similar thread.

Thanks, Site Team. I didn't think I deserved the sarcastic response I received when I posted my original question at the beginning of this thread. I guess seniority and experience doesn't always equate to respect.

They are referring to the outside ladder. Mine folds up tight against the trailer when not in use, then you pull the pins and pull it out to use it. I have not received a letter, so thanks for the heads up!

Hmm, that's not how my outside ladder works...mine stays attached in the "use" position, and you push the spring pins and pull it out to remove it totally if you want to. There's no hinges involved, just straight push-pull the smaller tube in/out of the larger tube, like adjusting a cane or crutches. The RV news link said Thunderbolts and Nitros, so maybe someone with one of those specific models can chime in.

So, if your's folds up flush to the sides, then it sounds like there might be a hinge involved...does it look like your brackets are welded to a hinge?

I tkink REPO is correct! I got the recall and it states Fold-Up Ladder manufactured by Christianson Ind.

Now for the punch line: I have a 24FQUL TH that doesn't even have an outside ladder. They are only put on the 5th. Wheel TH. I guess they just sent the recall out to all 2015-2016 XLR TH owners.

Mine is a 5th wheel, but not a Thunderbolt or Nitro. It was probably easier to just send the recall notice to everyone that has any XLR than it was to figure out who actually has one of the models with the ladder in question. Could've been handled better...
