Black tank emptying: am I going nuts?
So I've been out for the last weekend of camping, and I went to dump my tanks this morning. I release the black, let it drain, release the gray, and go back inside the camper. Now the sensor is telling me that the black tank is empty, but we all know sensors lie. So I can see water at the bottom of the black tank from the toilet, but there's no more water coming out. Has anyone else experienced this when draining your black tank? I'm not sure what else to do. Going the "fill and drain again" route at the moment...thoughts?

Likely the tank is not level and the water is below the last sensor which is on the side of the tank this is AKA "empty" I would just flush, close the drain and then prep for normal usage.

It does have a flusher, ran that earlier at the CG but I may do it again now. I like to fill and drain after the last trip of the year...

Have the camper lean towards the drain side and try draining the tank then. I'll bet there isn't much left in there. But with glare on water its hard to tell (plus the tanks are usually black plastic) unless you put a stick in there to measure. Probably not enough to worry about if your in a stationary spot. But if your going to be moving the trailer you will want it all out so your valves dont freeze.

Hey T, I bet your seeing the wet bottom of the tank and its nearly empty, like MT said. When you dumped did you let it drain to a trickle (or tinkle? LOL). And, did you close the black valve before opening the grey? Maybe you let some grey into the black tank?

The tilting the trailer towards the drain side worked. I knew I bought that tire change ramp for something! . I can now see the black plastic bottom. I just wanted to make sure it was all outta there before the freezing weather hits. There's a little AF in there now, too. Thanks for all the ideas...I guess I never looked at it that closely before. I'm definitely becoming more anal as I get older.

Likely not enough water in the tank to cause a problem.
Antifreeze in the tank is good, just make sure it can get to the valve.

Wouldn't it be nice for the dealer to include a sketch in all manuals showing each tank and where the drain is..ie front...back...end.........Then we could set up our unit with a slight slope in the proper directions........ Had that problem with one of my TT's but once I figured what direction they emptied no more problems!!!

Maybe in Dunn NC, residual water laying at the bottom of any of your tanks isn't a problem, but in NEPA (and my mountain top location at that,) where it can be single digits for days/weeks on end, I can assure you that it could be a potential problem. If there's enough water laying in the bottom of the tank, and it freezes and cracks my tank, it's a problem. Not to mention the havoc ice could play with the valves. So complete, "I can see the plastic bottom of the tank in the toilet opening" draining is for me during the winterizing process. Then some AF just for good measure.
Overkill is underrated.
