Do you tow with external ladder attached to side?

During the short time I have owned our XLR Toy Hauler, I have removed the ladder that mounts on the driver's side of the trailer when towing. It extends approximately 3-4".

Is the unit made to tow with the ladder attached? It would be nice to have roof access if needed when camping. I've been thinking that in an emergency, hopefully there would be another camper with a free standing ladder.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

I have the XLR 29MBV also and wondered why the ladder is removable. I assumed that when attached, it made the trailer to wide to be legal in some states. Its to long to fit in the bed of the truck, and takes up room in the garage, along with all the other stuff.

The ladder that came with my XLR is 6 foot which is to tall for the bunk bed. I cannot find an external mount for roof access so I think this is the wrong size ladder for the bunk bed.

Check for silver modules on the side of the trailer for external ladder mounts. My ladder has a curved section on the top.

If the trl with ladder attached is under 102" wide then you'll be legal, but if it's over 102" wide then you're better off removing it to save the hassles.

Correct. My XLR is 102" wide, and with the ladder hanging out the side it's more like 108". Max width in most areas is 102". Always thought this was a rather idiotic choice by the mfgs., seems they all do it. My last toyhauler only had a half wide ramp door and they still mounted the ladder on the side. I only ever saw one mounted on the back. Can't figure their reasoning on this, except you would have to remove the ladder to open the ramp door. I would rather do that then have to figure out where to store the thing!

I take mine off and leave it at home as I have (so far) only traveled about 250 miles one-way from home.. on some of the narrow roads I have traveled the ladder is over the center stripe with the tires of my dually on the edge of the road... I have room next to the Spyder to take it with us if we are going to be gone for a longer time and distance from home..
