Extra wires near battery?

I was hooking my battery back up after winter on my 29hfs and noticed next to the battery box there is a black wire and a yellow wire with an inline fuse that aren’t being used for anything. Does anyone know what they are there for? I don’t think they were hooked up to the battery last year, at least I hope not lol.

That would be the wires to your break away switch for the trailer brakes and I hope they were connected last year!

Be sure the fuse is good after you hook them back up and check your breaks.

Are they supposed to be hooked to the battery? They have eyelets on the ends. I don’t think it was hooked to it last year when I bought it new.

Upon further review, the other end just goes to a plug for some type of solar kit. I assume you’d plug a solar panel into it and then hook those wires up to the battery to charge the battery maybe.

And now, The rest of the story! But you still need a set of wires hooked to the break away switch from someplace.

With the way each R/V is seemingly wired differently and without us being able to be hands on with the wiring, it is virtually impossible for us to guess correctly. Especially without any photos or additional information.

cavie did a great job in mentioning the breakaway switch as there are always wires connected to the battery for that.

Glad you figured it out.

My breakaway must be tied into a junction box with other things because all that goes to the battery is the positive and the ground.

The break-a-way is probably tied into the battery side of the resetable fuse on the frame as my TT is.

If you bought the trailer new last year, and the wire was never connected, did you consider asking your dealer, assuming their service department is open. I have had good luck in the past, with contacting Forest River support.

My trailer has a similar wire, not connected, and it is for future solar charging if I decide to add it. Not much to it, just a wire to a plug, but it enables them to advertise "Prewired for Solar."

Yes, that’s exactly what it is

Solar panel connection, mine had the same wires mine and came with the solar panel on the roof but wasn't connect to battery. There should also be a second connection at the exterior lower left of the battery box to connect an external solar panel
