Fuel Pump Questions

I'm trying to sort out a stolen fuel pump on my XLR 27HFS. It seems like it would be pretty straight forward.

1) Take the line from the tank (the one near the fill line) connect it to the intake of the pump
2) From the pump run the handle to the door
3) Wire it up.

What's throwing me off is that the evap canister also has a hose cut. The one labeled "Intake" is cut (and wherever it goes is missing). What was this for, and where should it go? Did they just cut the wrong hose?

The 'intake' hose is just a stub about a foot long. It doesn't go anywhere.

Oh, ok, so it looks like just a cut hose sticking out? So... I should probably remove the tape I put on it to cover it up to prevent dirt from getting into it
