I-Phone hot spot

Verizon is my carrier. Does anyone use their WiFi hotspot on their phone for television viewing and movie streaming. (Like Amazon fire stick). Campground WiFi is usually spotty and most have policies on streaming.

Can be done, but you will run out of data really fast. Cell based internet service may not be fast enough to stream unless your in a really strong area.

I have done that with my iphone 5s but I have AT&T service with a direcTV account also... that combo gives me 22 GIG a month... only works in strong service areas, and most camps that I stay at the signal is too weak... usually lucky to be able to make a call.

I can switch to the ultimate unlimited plan, so data use shouldn't be a problem.

I've done it and it works great. One thing you can do to help with bandwidth is to go into Netflix settings and set it to low resolution. The picture still looks OK and it uses less data (0.3 GB/hr). HD is 3 GB/hr and UHD is 7.

Yes, it can be done. I have a cell booster and you definitely need to have the phone plugged into a charger. We stream Netflix with little issues.

According to Verizon website... if you go to their Unlimited plan, they block the phone from doing Hotspot, BUT if they do allow it, they will cut off your data at 15 gigs, not slow it down but STOP it!
This will also happen if you have the MiFi/Hotspot device, once you hit 15 gigs they stop all data to the device instead of so-called slowing it down!

How can it be an unlimited plan if they completely stop it at 15GB?
This is the first I've heard of "stop all data at 15GB" on an unlimited plan.

I have Verizon unlimited and the MiFi.......when you hit 15Gig, it slows you down a lot, but doesn't cut you off.....

Correct about Verizon. Some plans only allow 10 gig of hotspot time. With AT&T and DirectTv Now you only pay an extra $30 a month for true unlimited DTV data. The second month I had DTV I used over 50 gig of viewing. Adding Mobley gives you unlimited data which may or may not be slowed after 22gig. I used 33 gig of Mobley data one month but it never got slowed. Apple TV and Amazon Fire will connect directly to the Mobley, thus bypassing the phone data issues.

Not sure if true or not but Iíve heard they are no longer offering the $20 plan for unlimited use of the mobley.

Sorry speed reduced to "up to 600kbps", might as well be zero! at 600 I could barely load my email... kept saying "host computer timeout"... Key word here is UP TO!!!!
This is ONLY if you use a Hotspot Device connecting a computer or another device, if streaming on your phone and you exceed 22gigs, then they MIGHT reduce the speed of your data depending on network congestion.

Just a side note....

I was gonna change my 18gig per device plan(we have 3 devices) to Unlimited, as I was doing it online, it stated what I benefit and what I lose... one of the things I lose is Mobile Hotspot on both of our phones!!
To add another Hotspot device far exceeded the money savings of what we are currently on, then we both have to carry a Hotspot and phone!

The wife would not go for that since she uses her Hotspot on her phone a lot. when she is away from other connections(i.e. iPad, Laptop).

If you're using your phone for occasional data use most folks will get by just fine with 15GB (even streaming occasionally).

However, if you're needing huge amounts of data you're probably better off using WiFi and a Cable or DSL connection.

The carriers had to slap the limits on there due to abuse of the network (businesses would literally download Terabytes of data over them). It's a resource hog and pulls down data speeds for all if you have lots of people doing that.

What I do is while I'm home, I pull up the Netflix app then go and download a bunch of shows etc to the phone. Then you can watch them offline. You can also do this with amazon prime videos.

Amazon prime does stop you once you reach a specific number saved for later. Tried before our last trip and didnít get too far before the stop showed up.

I'm camping. Sitting by the fire with a Bourbon in my hand. Life is good.
