King Pin Lock

Quesiton-For those whom use these devices what are the pro and cons of using a king Pin Lock? Or what do you recommend using? I'm looking at many and there are many choices but what do you recommend?

Thanks Tim Coltrain

I just ordered a Fort Knox lock for our Anderson conversion on our 5th wheel. I like that it covers all nuts and bolts for the adaptor, so no one can walk away with it and leave us stuck somewhere.
Fort Knox makes all types of locks and from my research, got very good reviews.

I use this one... mainly just to keep any small lube off my shirt!

Several in my group have king pin locks of various kinds, including myself. We might have used them once or twice. Now they just ride around and take up space

King Pin Lock

I got a Master King Pin lock off Amazon for $120. It is a thick red tube that goes completely around the pin. It uses a standard high security lock that has a heavy aluminum slide bar inside the tube. Even if the lock is drilled out, the bar will not come off. It is similar to some of the $300 locks. From experience w/ coin operated vending machines, if they really want in, hard to stop them. I like that this has a handle w/ a banner that drops down to remind you to go around it when under the trailer. Actually you have to pull out both sides of the handle to get it off/on the king pin. This is another deterrent, also prevents you from dropping 6 lbs. on your foot. I have several extra kets around to prevent a big problem. I saw a demo where they drilled lock and hit it w/ a sledge hammer for 5 minutes w/o opening the lock or breaking it.

Nothing on mine. If they can hitch upon with my wedge on the Sidewinder good luck. Then they need to manage to find the bypass on the front jacks ha ha ha. They then need to move 18,000 lbs out a narrow gate by two houses in a condo development without hitting rocks.

Lock

I do not worry about it when I am home. Just at the storage lot and when out boon docking. A good lock just makes them keep looking somewhere else. The Master lock that I use is "Fire Engine Red". It also comes w/ a ribbon off of the bottom to remind me not to walk into it. After working in retail for 45 years and having both my car stolen and house broken into, probable over cautious.
On another note, I really like the Bolt brand locks for receiver hitches and cable locks. They key to your TV key, one less key to carry and tough locks.

Imput

Thanks for the help. My new lock is in and I'm happy with that. I know nothing can be a 100% but at least peace of mind. Along with Cameras.

thanks Tim in NC
