newbie xlr 415

hello to all,
First time 5er owner, bought xlr415 and towed it to ark from ohio to get my feet wet. no troubles(yeah). my question is with the generator on shouldn't both acs work without an issue. its the onan 5.5(i think). when one turned on the other would shut down(only have 2 not 3). and when it occured i could hear a switching or clicking from under floor (figured it was inverter). any help is greatly
appreciated. love the forum info.

Yes the 5.5 Onan should carry both ACs. Do you have an energy management system?

Not necessarily. My trailer has two AC units and they installed an EMS from the factory. I've started my generator while running the ACs and noticed the EMS kicks them both off for a couple minutes then they kick back in systematically.

Here's a pic of the EMS display for reference.

You should have no problem running your 2 AC units off the 5.5 Onan. I have a new '16 XLR 395 with 3 AC units and I can run all 3 at the same time on the 5.5 Onan. Make sure you're not also trying to run the water heater on electric at the same time though, that uses a lot of energy.

I fired up the Onan today to see what the ACs were pulling. Bedrooms 13.5k and living area 15k pull 25 amps together. Turned the garage 13.5k on and the total went up to 36 anps.

You don't have an inverter but rather a converter which shouldn't click corresponding to AC use. You can easily run both AC's off your Onan 5500. I'm wondering if you have an issue with your transfer switch which can click and if there is a loose connection, could cause one AC to drop when the load from the other kicks in.

R.Jones, you got a freebie. The load management only comes when you order 3 AC's.

I believe you are right. The load management system comes on a 30 amp unit when opting for the 2nd AC option. They made mine 50 amp but still outfitted it as a 30 amp unit. Not complaining here

Well, that worked out nicely...

I wonder what's wired into your third AC output from the management panel? Probably just empty...
