RV Locks = Great Upgrade

Just remembered that I pulled the RV Lock brand locks from my last trailer when I sold it to put on the new one. Now IF ONLY I remembered that they were a slightly different shape and asked Bob to have the paint shop pull them before painting my rig, they would be perfect. Ah well. Now we have our first touch up out of the way... The front is the remote and keypad operated one. The rear is just keyed alike.

One of the few options I passed on was the keypad door locks from XLR. They didn't have the cool remote and I already had my old ones. I think RV Lock has a deal with Heartland as I haven't seen them mentioned on too many other boards. I got mine when I was there and got a member discount. Good product.

Here's a link if anyone is interested. RV Lock

Darn, RV Lock doesn't have any encrusted with Swarovski crystals or one that you can open from your smartphone app... I'll keep searching.... that's what happens when you don't tuck your chain in. (I'll pull it). Seriously, this is a nice option. I also noticed a few other RVlock products. I had not heard of them before. Lots I've not heard of... bitta bing, bitta bam.

I'm pretty sure the salesman said the 395 Amp is half-ton towable, or did he say your half-ton will fit inside... dunno!

They were supposed to be coming out with matching locks for the slam baggage door locks but that's been stalled for about a year now. Doesn't seem to be too difficult of a thing to engineer but they told me they ran into a snag while developing the product and it's delayed.

Rodney--since you've installed these: is there any wiring involved, or are the locks battery operated? Thanks...

They run on 4 AA's which are included. They go inside the handle and are accessible from the inside behind a small panel held in with a set screw. There is also an on/off button on the inside if you want it to operate as just a key lock.

Nice. If I had read the FAQ section, I would have answered my own question! So they're a direct bolt in replacement as far as physical size? And it retains the deadbolt function?

Yes, they are direct bolt in. Some doors are a tight fit and people have had to file maybe 1/16th of an inch off the fiberglass around the opening. I had to on this trailer but not my last. Took about 30 seconds. Yes, the deadbolt is still there and is actually the one that is power actuated. (It can be operated with the key through the standard lower keyslot as well.) The upper handle lock is key only.

I ordered a keyed alike unit for my back door too because they use a different keyset than standard RV locks. So, you can't key one of their locks to match your old locks. I think it was $40.

All I know is that it wasn't mine!

In our relationship, she's management, I'm labor. She buys it, I install it (or fix it, or maintain it)--you know, I'm just the general MRO guy around here.

I know the system well. I impersonate a handyman, jack of no trades and she isn't the wiser. I get 5$ a week to spend anyway I want to, what a great place to live deal

RV Lock

I went to the site after I looked at your photos and the vidio I watched , the guy peeled the back off of something with numbers and he stuck it on the TT . Interested in just the remote option that you have . Maybe I'm not looking right , the picture you have is like the remote for my car . Thanks in advanced. Do they ever come to ralleys ?

I just wish they had a similar option for the basement locks!

There are a few different models. You are watching the video for the older model, the 3.0 with the remote keypad that sticks on the RV next to the door. I have the 4.0 with the integrated keypad and remote key fob. Look at their products page and you will see the different models available along with pricing.

As far as rallies, I'm not sure. I know they have done the Heartland rallies in the past. It's 5 screws to install so it's about as easy as it gets though so very easy to do yourself.

The UPS guy was here today, so the MRO team (that's me) set about installing the RV Locks. How cool! Good call, Rodney. I like that it can be opened/locked in 3 different ways. The rear one went in easy, the front one was a bit of a pushing match, but Team MRO won.
