Westlake tires

I was curious about the overall quality and success of the stock tires ( Westlake) that came on my 29HFS. I read reviews that said the China tire is a discount tire missing some common tire components used commonly in the US. I am not near my camper to write down the model, but some Westlake's have been recalled. Does anyone know if they were the ones installed stock on the XLR?
I hear too many times when a tire blows it damage the camper fenders. Any comments with their experience with the Westlake tire is appreciated.

To my knowledge all Westlake tires are made in China. The Westlake brand is their top of the line tire so it is better I suppose than the others. This is a small company with a warehouse in the USA type of operation. Not sure what components of the tire may be missing.

No matter where your tires are manufactured, start with:
1. Get a TPMS
2. Regularly check tire pressure
3. Regularly visually inspect all sides of all tires
4. Cover your tires to prevent uv damage when stored
These will give you the best chance of preventing blowouts and the resulting damage they cause.

Some of the tires reviews were via google, I went back into FR and found others. Plenty comments to read. It was not all doom and gloom. Tire pressure appears to be key.

Another reason to drive UNDER the tires' speed rating...my six Westlakes are actually WEARING. No blow-outs in 15K.

We have had no issues with ours. Inspection, proper inflation, and driving within the speed rating are my key factors.

Our Westlakes on our trailer are going on 4 years old no issues to date.

Westlake also makes or did make car tires. Son had a set of those.

My Westies are doing fine. All small trailer tires are made in the far east; these by one of the big companies, Chin Sheng I think. Not sure of spelling. I wont be swapping them out for other China tires, GY and Maxxis included. I would only consider swapping for 10 ply and might stay with Westies. These tires are not being recalled.

I must recant my previous post about not having any issues with the factory Westlake tires. This past weekend I had a failure. Luckily I was in town at slow speeds (so no damage), only 3 miles from the house. I guess I'll be replacing those tires in the spring and her winter nap. Click image for larger version

Do you know what went wrong? Just glancing at the pic, it appears to have been driven on flat. Did you find a puncture hole (or perhaps a nail) in the tread area? if so, that is hardly a tire failure per se.

Westlake tires

Those of us that have switched over to LT tires are sometimes considered trouble-makers... but none of us have tire problems.

I replaced my tires with LT's the day I brought my new camper home... and never worry about them. I make sure they are at max pressure -- of regular air [emoji846]-- and go on my way. I haven't had to add air yet (no leaks).

No TPMS
No 65 mph limit (think mine are 88 mph)
No stopping to take temps
No tire covers

I'm living on the edge! LOL.

No problems yet with my WestLake tires. I do use the 507 tire monitor system and keep them properly inflated. The tires have approx 15,000 miles on them and still look good.

Westlakes are okay tires. Prefer Maxxis. The Westlakes that were recalled were car or truck tires, not trailer tires. Biggest problem with OEM is that they choose tires too close to the maximum GVW and there isn't enough reserve capacity. Tires lose capacity as they age, so it doesn't take long to be over the tire rating pretty quickly.

I have pulled lots of trailers and I have never seen a tire roll when turning like the west lakes on my 340 did. Being only a tandem, (if the 340 would have been a tri axle I probably would have used them for awhile) I upgraded right away to the Goodyear g614. No regrets, a lot less role, and peace of mind. I also got $200 out of my westlakes trading them in. I feel all tandem axle toy haulers pushing 40' should at least come with g range tires standard.
