White wires to the batt

Anyone know what the White wires are for and which is supposed to be the Neg/Pos. Line? I honestly kinda forgot since I took the battery out to charge🤷🏼*♂️

Are you wired for solar prep? My white wires are the Furion plug for the solar panels

There’s some sort of plug for “solar”... maybe that’s it? I’ll take a pic tmw in the daylight. Does the yellow line go to the negative?

Plain white is negative, yellow stripe is positive. Double check as sometimes they get reversed, check the polarity at the socket.

Although it doesn't answer your current question, this may help in the future. If you have a cellphone with a camera, it's easy to snap a picture before removing the battery. This way you will have a photo to help your memory.


You can also use your cellphone to easily take pics before disassembling other things to aid in the reassembly process.

Whoever installed what looks like a lamp cord, should not have used wiring that is not really suitable for automotive or marine use. Other than the lack of proper color coding, the insulation does not appear to have the abrasion resistance for something that moves and vibrates. It’s even more problematic because there is no current limiting for a direct connection to a power source of very high capacity (the battery). My batteries are adjacent to my propane tanks. If the insulation on wire connected to the positive battery terminal is cut or abraded by vibration, then the battery can supply sufficient current to that segment of the wire and heat it to a temperature that you might not want that close to your propane, assuming you have propane on board and near a flammable source of fuel.

If you decide to keep this connection

One of the wires is marked, by some kind of imprint on the insulation. One is not. The stamped wire is +.

Most white wires on a trailer are (-) negative. On DC. Not knowing who installed that. I would watch how I hooked it up . Netrual is also white on AC .

Can you just follow it and find out where it goes? Mine does not have wires connected directly to the battery terminals but I have 3 hot items that are on all the time, brake disconnect, the entertainment system, and I think the propane/co detector. These are connected to the hot side of the battery disconnect switch (do you have one?)

Sure looking at it it's a Rube Goldberg install so 50/50 odds you get it right, I'd go for it. OP is in a much better position to figure it out than we are from one pic.

The wire is not lamp cord.

If you look closely, it is the same twin wire 12v DC wire used in other parts of a R/V.

One of the wires has a yellow stripe and the other is all white. It has the correct insulation for automotive use. Marine use wire often comes jacketed.

I'd believe they are connected incorrectly in the photo as the factory 'usually' connects the wire with a stripe, to positive. (hot)

I also agree it likely goes to the solar connector.
My solar wires are both black. One has a red stripe.

I've never seen any of these wires to the solar connector fused.

I like to take pictures of every change. Then put them in a file for future reference!!! Then you have a record of how they were when every thing worked. Also could put a picture in a plastic sleeve and post it at your battery if this is a yearly thing!!!

That yellow strip will likely fade in the sun eventually. Once you confirm which is positive, you may want to see about putting some red heat shrink tubing over that terminal and part of the wire for a more permanent indicator of positive (or something similar that works for you).

I got tired of digging out my meter in the spring to remember what was positive or negative, so I black taped the black wires that are negative. No ambiguity in it now.
