Winterizing

I have an XLR 29hfs and was reading about how to winterize. Manual says to put the non toxic antifreeze in the fresh water tank and then run it through the system. Does anyone have a trick on how to get the antifreeze into the
fresh water tank?

bsquared,
Do a search of the forum BEFORE you put RV antifreeze in your fresh water tank.

There are several ways to get antifreeze into the plumbing without the hassle of putting it into your tank and having a devil of a time getting it flushed out come spring.

Just search 'winterizing' and you will have days worth of reading and tricks!

There is a suction line and a valve behind the panel that you have to take screws out of to pump the antifreeze through your system be sure to drain and bypass the hot water heater.

Do not recommend adding antifreeze in the FW tank. Very hard to get out. Use the antifreeze port next to the water pump. Also don't forget to bypass the water heater. You should need about 2Gal antifreeze.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see the article mention the city water connection or the black tank rinse.

You're right. I need to add those- I've never dealt with them and have never had issues, but I can see it being a problem.

This generic pic covers 95% of RV's. Maybe it will help.

Remove the panel that is behind the door beneath the sink and stove top. You will see a valve and one hose connected to the valve is the siphon hose. This is on the input side of the pump. Turn the valve toward this hose and put the other end in the antifreeze jug. I would not put antifreeze in the fresh water tank. Also if you have a compressor you can blow the lines out before you put antifreeze in the lines.

I am planning to go to Stone Mtn Ga. the last week of Dec. 2016. I live in Fl. and never had to winterize my TT. Do I have to winterize to go to Ga.?

If it were me, I'd wait and watch the weather forecasts the week before. Winterizing is easy so if you wait until the last minute, it shouldn't be a problem.

I assume you're camping once you get there? If so, it would have to get really cold for it to be a concern for me just for the drive up there.

You may be able to get by with just draining the water heater and opening up your low point drains.

Would you leave a bit of the antifreeze in the toilet bowl?

Yes. It keeps the seal from drying out.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went back and flushed the fresh water tank. Drained all tanks. Blew out all the lines with compressed air. Found the pump siphon line under the sink and pumped antifreeze through all the lines including city water line. Used hand pump to put antifreeze in black water flush line and fresh water line. I think I have it all covered now.
