Hello. And Thanks in advance. I'm frustrated. Hopefully someone knows the answer. We have 2019 29' Stealth fifthwheel toyhauler. I've been trying to hook up our Dish sat and Wally. It works directly hooked into rcvr. But doesn't work hooked up to rvs coex connections. We have two connections . One in service bay and another near entry door. I've tried both. We have a Jensen Tv. I've tried port HDMI1 and HDMI2 also. So I'm lost. Also the reg antenna works fine too. So I can't figure out this puzzle. Thanks
The dish (if it’s an automatic dish like the playmaker or tailgater) get its power from the receiver. The wiring in the RV isnt compatible for whatever reason. I have Pathway dish and just ran a coax through the bottom of the slide ( my entertainment system is in the slide) and made a direct connection that way. Some say you can take the cover plate off of the junction box with the antenna booster and remove the splitter? I never tried that. I already did it my way before learning that on this forum.
The coax cable from the Wally to the dish cannot have any splitters or other devices in it. RVs that are wired specifically for a satellite dish will have a completely separate run of coax that goes from a wall plate on the inside marked SAT and/or AUX to a dedicated connection on the outside wall also for SAT and/or AUX. The only thing between those two connection points will be 1 solid coax wire.
RV systems designed with CATV capability will be a system of splitters and power injectors (for the antenna signal booster). Because of all this, the CATV system in the RV will not work with satellite without modification. To make it work with satellite, you need to trace the coax from one of the outside TV connections and find the first connection at the end of that cable run inside. Disconnect that cable from whatever splitter it is connected to inside and that is where you would plug the Wally connection into.
I'd like to thank you all. I may just figure out a way to directly feed satellite coex to rcvr. Keep it simple. Had many did campers for 45yrs. Never had this problem. Thanks again
that is what I did. on my Open Range I just ran a hole down through the floor next to the wall (in the slide) . Ran coax along the same wire loom as the other wires in the slide than dropped it down near the back so I could just connect the dish wire to what was hanging down.
in my MBS I had the dish mounted on the roof so it was prewired.
on my Arctic Fox 990 I had to pull the TV in cable off the TV/air antenna switch and ran it direct to the receiver. than just hook dish to TV cable outside.
of course this prevents you from using cable tv in parks, but once you go dish you will never want park cable (and I have never seen park cable that was worth a crap anyway).
as others here said, that receiver sends voltage to the dish through the coax, and that switch you see above, even if it is switched on or off will block that 12V going out the TV cable to the outside. If you have a separate dedicated SAT port (like picture above) your lucky (if mfg even hooked it up correct).
Unfortunately connecting a dish to an RV is a crap shoot when trying to use existing wiring. I have had RV’s that the SAT connections which were built in worked fine, I have seen them where the built in’s wouldn’t work at all. Some times the RV manufacturers will take the cheap way out and use the old style connectors which are not good at passing the digital signals that are so common these days. If that’s is the case the connectors are easily replaced with the new ones as the dimensions are the same, they just have better connectors and shielding in them.
The most reliable thing to do is buy a 50 foot piece of good quality, quad shielded RG6 coax and fish it in from your storage bay to where you will be putting your SAT receiver. Then you have a good home run with no connectors to mess up your signal. A 50 foot lead should be long enough to get you around most obstacles so you should get the most use possible of your satellite system.
Thanks. That sounds like a plan! You would think this day and age the RV business would have this pretty much figured out. People try to upgrade in RVs and end up getting less. Grrrrr

I set our antenna on the pickup bed cover with, I thought, a clear view of the sky with no trees. It turns out that the cab of the pickup was in the way.

They weren’t clearly labeled, so it took a bit of trial and error to figure out the correct hookups. If that doesn’t work, run the cable through the slide, or a window to your box to see if that will work. If you still don’t get channels, be sure that you have a clear view of the southern sky. I set our antenna on the pickup bed cover with, I thought, a clear view of the sky with no trees. It turns out that the cab of the pickup was in the way.
I use the app TV Signal Finder from Winegard. It uses the camera on your phone and superimposes the satellites in the sky so you can see if there is a clean shot or not. Veery handy app to have.
I think the dish tailgater you don't need to aim anything. you tell the receiver what state is in, than it aims itself. But I used an app to make sure the my view of the sky in that direction was clear when parking the camper, or placing the dish
I have helped many friends get the coax system in their RVs to work with satellite. Sometimes it is as simple as locating the splitters and replacing with a coax union creating a single straight shot line to the one TV area they wish to use.
Other times it is better to replace the cheap splitters with quality power pass through splitters. You can use them with satellite, but usually not more than one splitter.
The most difficult part is finding the splitter(s). Usually they are behind one of the coax faceplates. But not always. The builders do occasionally find the most unusual places to decide to place them.
Other times we have found just a loose connection, switched cables, unattached cables, or bad connector install.
My least favorite 'fix' is to run a cable through the slide or window. If you decide this is the way to go, at least drill a hole in the appropriate place and install a good coax plate and jack cover for the inside/outside transition.

My cable or sat connections would not work with either. Dealer tried to fix it but couldn't. They said there was a coax problem in the ceiling but they couldn't fix it without tearing out the ceiling. I said no, just install a dedicated coax from my wall directly to the LR tv and I will use that. Bedroom tv only works with OTA antenna.

If there is no dedicated external port for a carry-out sat antenna and if the park cable port is a direct shot to the Winegard booster panel it can be used for sat. Disconnect the park cable from the booster panel install a coupler (if needed) to lengthen the coax cable. Connect an A/B switch (OUT port) to that coax and install one coax for the sat receiver and one coax for the tv ( A/B switch IN ports). With this arrangement either a sat signal or park cable input can be utilized. Sat receiver HDMI output to tv and tv coax to Winegard booster panel as is. Coupler and A/B switch are cheap ($8.00 or less), extra coax ?. A/B switches have no affect on sat antenna/receiver interconnect. This is one way.

I bought this connector and drilled a hole through the wall where the wally was going to live and attached a short piece of RG 6 to connect to the wally. Put one in the front and one in the back. Took about 30 minutes to install both.
