Upgrade A/C registers to adjustable louvers

If anyone else has the non-adjustable (2016 and below, cant speak for 2017) louvers for their A/C returns in their ceiling, you may desire the ability to control flow. Here is a very easy fix that takes 60 seconds to swap all of them in your TH. Simply pull the current fixed louver unit out, leaving the ring that is screwed in (3 screws under neath) and then snap in the adjustable one. Identical under mount piece, same mfgr, simply the main unit swap.

What my unit came with:
D&W JetStream #8950
Venting Products / AC Vents / "Jet Stream" #8950 Wide Open Louvered RV AC Vent - DW Inc.

What you replace it with
D&W JetStream #8850
Venting Products / AC Vents / "Jet Stream" #8850 Fully Adjustable Large RV AC Ceiling Vent - DW Inc.

Here's some pics

Upgrade A/C registers to adjustable louvers

Thanks for posting. After reading this, I followed link you gave and ordered four for our Shockwave F28SAGDX fifth wheel. It took less than 30 seconds per vent to pop in the adjustable vents. Great upgrade 😊. Should have come that way, imho.

Any have luck in replacing the heater vents with adjustable vents? I'd like to get as much heatflow to the back of my 2916 so the kiddos dont freeze at night.

Remove one from your trailer and match it up @ a big box store. IIRC Loews had louvered ones that fit and you could close.

Are you wanting to replace the round or the rectangular heating registers?

The retangular kind - see photo. And I did try 05CrewDually's advice,
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ml#post1732727
and took it into Home Depot, but could not find anything that would work. However - there was a website printed on the louver, and when I went there I found my vent:
https://www.dwincorp.com/product/rot...t-outlet-vent/
And more importantly, I also found a replacement with a 'damper' to modulate the air flow!
https://www.dwincorp.com/product/rot...-vent-wdamper/
And unlike some RV equipment suppliers who only sell direct to manufacturers, you can order direct from D&W. So I have placed an order for two ($5 each before shipping). Should be a direct replacement. I'll post an update once they arrive and I install. Note that this is same supplier that makes the AC vents that started this thread.

That's great that you figured it out. Originally I thought you were refering to the heat registers that are rectangular and mount to the floor. Either way problem solved by removing the old one!

Ah. I understand what you are referring to - we had those type of vents on our previous TT.

Yours look just like the ones in mcwhirtj's pic, just a different color. I'd follow his lead if I were you.

Glad this worked out well. And thanks for letting us know that you found something that works, and more importantly that you told us the exact part.

Heater vent w/ damper from D&W Inc. P/N 4840 R -4"

Well I got the new vents from DW Inc. (very quick delivery btw) and did the install today. The new vent, with an adjustable damper, worked, but there are caveats. I hope the pictures help to explain. Main issue I had is that the damper blades extend out beyond the flange that the flex-hose attaches to. So if the hose in any way impinges on the "space" that the blades need to freely move, the blades will jam. I fixed this by making a shroud out of a piece of thick cardboard (gasket stock) and using some HVAC foil tape to make a protective space around the damper blades. If the heater flex tubing could have been routed straight for a few inches, this might not have been necessary. But in my case, I was mounting this in the bathroom where the vent is under the shower tub, and there was interference with the shower tub base that required the flex hose to bend immediately after attaching to the vent, which impinged on the dampers. I also had to cut away a bit of the shower tub base (osb plywood) to make it fit. That was a pain (used my rotozip tool) but need to do so was specific to my installation; if you have a clear space behind the vent it should be relatively straight forward. In the end it worked - I turned on the furnace and closed the dampers all the way down, and only a small amount of heat was coming out. Given that there are only four vents in this fifth wheel, and one of them is in the bathroom (very small space), this should be a big improvement in efficiency. Hope the pictures make it all clear.
