Adding hitch receiver

Has anyone added a two inch hitch receiver to their bumper? I'm looking to carry two bicycles. Decal on bumper says it will void warranty.

I've just done it... but I did my research, reinforced the bumper, and our trailer is out of warranty.

Don't waste your time trying to use the square tube bumper on the back. Put a receiver hitch on the rear. You can buy a universal RV hitch from Amazon through Curt or other manufacturers. Also through Etrailer.com. Will cost some to have it installed, but you won't have to worry about it cracking or breaking off. My assumption would be you also have a spare tire carrier bolted to it. I had a welder put mine on and reinforce the square tube where it carries the spare. Bike racks put a lot of leverage on their receivers and they bounce a lot. Just my recommendation.

X2 this. I have a friend that works for a big rig trailer shop and he put in a hitch receiver for me. Frame welded and enhanced, can carry 500 lbs or tow 1500.

Have done both, with motorcycle carrier for small dirt bike (300 LBS) and kendon stand up motorcycle trailer triple towing an Electraglide bagger (1200 lbs).

Not recommended unless you do your engineering correct. Not only depends on what your carrying but the effect the added load puts on you set-up. Adjustments will be needed.

So as an engineer, what adjustments would you recommend?

See posts #2 and #12 here for the receivers I had welded to the frames of my Roo 19 and Mini Lite 2503S:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...oo-107358.html

Others have gone with Safety Struts like these:

https://www.mount-n-lock.com/mnl-car...bumper-failure

and added a bolt-on receiver like this:

Another option is a bolt-on-to-frame receiver like this one from eTrailer:

https://www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Camp...urt/13703.html

Don't just bolt something to the bumper. That's tempting fate.

You must be a mechanical engineer.

I bought one that bolts on to the pin box. No welds required. It was from a bike shop in Quebec

Works fine but a little pricey

If you take a real close look at the welds and the material of the OEM bumper you wouldn't even mount the spare tire to it, I had my bike rack mounted to the pin box with a custom mount but need to move it because I'm mounting a cargo rack to the pinbox instead, I removed their bumper and replaced it with one I built(4"x4"x3/16" wall SQ tube and the mounting tubes are 4"x3"x3/16" wall that run 24" under the frame)much better then original and I don't worry about the bikes falling off
I also beefed up the lower end of the bike rack as well.

i brought my 5th wheel to a welding shop and had the oem bumper removed and re-welded and also added reinforcement to it. I had them weld 2 pieces of angle iron to the frame and also to the bumper. I only carry 2 bikes on my bike rack which is just bolted to my oem bumper.

I have a Tracer Air 238 I want to attach a cargo rack for my generator.to the rear bumper after checking the quality of the welding I am surprised it is still attached.I am a retired welding inspector just about every welding flaw in the book
Is well represented in those weldments

If you decide to mount to the bumper and no support to the frame, just look at the welds holding the bumper on...guarantee you'll change your mind and have something frame mounted. There are vids out there of the bumpers being ripped from the welds by the constant vibration of bikes on a rack bolted to the bumper.
