Most popular choices are Maxxis or Goodyear Marathons...Unfortunately still made in China but seem too hold up MUCH better than the other brands

I had a blowout a couple months ago which alarmed me. I've got about 4000 miles on these tires, but while at the tire dealer, I found a screw in the tire. So, not a blowout due to a defective tire. I placed my spare on the wheel to keep my set of like tires and purchased an Akkuret for a spare.

Yes,minimal though. It ripped that piece of (cheap) plastic trim over the wheel off. Obliterated the tire pretty darn good. Like a gun shot..chunks of rubber flying...heart racing..cool stuff!! Anyway these..what do they call them..Chinese bombers..WOW! Got maybe 3 years and I guess 10-12k on them. According to one review that's about right. After looking at all the mind numbing reviews and some of the replies here I'm thinking those Maxxis sound good!

Update. I left this morning from Louisiana on our way to San Antonio. We had another blowout. I put the spare on and made it to Beaumont. Pulled up at National Tire and changed all 4. 2 of the 3 left on the camper were about to blow. Tread area failed, not sidewall. You can see the tread deformed in the pictures. It damaged the slide floor, ripped the plastic fender well off, and ripped the gas line loose.

William, you have my sympathies sir. Sounds like you got a worse deal than I had. I know folks get tired (no pun intended) of these tire stories, but only a few thousand miles and BOOM!! It's like the frame flex thing..oops sorry! Anyway what brand/type did you go with? Just curious as I will be ordering 4 new ones soon.

I went with "Towmax" by neccessity. That was one of two brands they had and the one with only 4 in stock. I had two more ready to blow so I couldn't shop. The tire tech let the air out of the two bad ones before he would remove it from the trailer. Needless to say, I was in a pickle. And to make things worse, I was missing a bearing buddy from my last tire change. I had to find a trailer shop to replace that. So now we're at the campground safe and sound drinking a cold one.

These are the stories that prompted me to get four new ones before our trip to Colorado, a little preventative maintenance. The tires were 3 years old and I just don't trust them. I made the decision a little late and budget dictated what I could get. I got 10 ply Gladiators. My local tire guy, who also rents u-hauls, swears by them. Lets just say, new Chinese tires must be better than old Chinese tires. The tire looks really good and I like the tread design.

We didn't have a blowout but did have a tire failure with less than 4,000 miles on them. We had a belt slip on our original camper tires. They were Towmax. We replaced with Bridgestone R250's. So far so good. Hoping for many more miles before needing to replace again.

Being a new guy here and wont own a2014 325RES until the 18th of July, am curious as to why folks aren't moving up to LT (light truck) tires. Our new 5er has Chinese tires, Tow Max/Tow Master (or something like that), I believe, so really don't expect that they will be on the trailer past the winter, one way or the other. The Titanium that we are trading has General Grabbers that have been great while many other owners of that brand trailer have other makes of LTs and have reported few if any failures vs Marathons (even the G's), Carlisle's or any of the other Chinese brands.

ST tires sidewalls are better built for sidewall flexing and are designed to hold static weight (typical camper's weigh in between 8K-14K lbs vs trucks 4K-8K lbs)when not moving vs LT's performance is better the more you keep the tire moving down the road...IMO, reason for folks staying with ST's when replacing camper tires.

I would agree with your statements 100% - if we could source decent tires, not Chinese/Far East made junk like we are being forced to use if we are going to stay with ST tires.

I don't want this thread degenerate into one more ST vs LT rants. I personally will use the best tire that I see fit for my use. IMO, the current ST offerings are pretty pitiful so am back to my original question above.

Got my Power King Towmax time bombs replaced today. I never trusted them, and yup - had an issue last week. One year old and less than 1500 miles and caught one coming apart before it blew.
Now I can feel much more confident while towing.

UHaul trailers are often towed overloaded and at speeds often exceeding the 65 mph speed rating. They are all equipped with ST tires.
This is very strange, if LT tires would be superior, no???

Yeah,I managed to salvage my fender with some stainless steel washers (over the now larger holes) and some JB weld to finish the job. The steel belt that separated did manage to gouge a hole in the bottom of the coach which I hadn't noticed earlier,oh well Gorilla tape. This whole ST/LT tire thing is maddening. After hours of roaming the WWW,I'm going with the Maxxis tires, load range E which is what the Road Riders (yeah right!) were to begin with. At this point this coach will probably be gone before the 3 year timer goes off again! At 63 we're looking at our last RV which is probably a Class A.

Have not heard this of anyone else but my local tire dealer refuses to sell or install LT tires on trailers, they will only install the STs. Liability ??
