Installing slideout toppers

We have a 2011 Primetime Lacrosse 301 RLS with a super slide and the large wardrobe slide out (smaller). I am thinking about installing toppers (awnings) on each slideout. How many inches above the slideout opening on the main body of the TT do I attach the long strip that the awning slides in to? Dose it have to be attached in to a frame channel? Anybody installed these themselves? Thanks in advance.

I just installed 2 on my Windjammer 3008w. The awning rails were already in place. They are probably 6" above slideout. DW and myself installed, she on the roof to guide the awning into the rail and me looking like an acrobat balancing on a ladder with the awning in the balance. The 6 footer not so bad, the 12 footer got interesting... I have one for sale in the classifieds dirt cheap if it will fit.

Our Georgetown (used purchase) has toppers on both slides. We didn't realize that the living room slide topper had rotted out. The MH had been parked with the slides deployed and the living room side of the rig had been facing south for a couple of seasons.

With the topper having lost all its vinyl and just leaving the fabric threads in place , we got rain water in the dinette overhead cabinets. My take on slide toppers is that they offer additional protection against rainwater on the slide roof making it into the interior. We had a minor roll-over in the top seal that allowed water to get inside because the topper wasn't functional.

We're definitely fans of slide toppers.
