Make sure you take the appraisal we discussed with you so you'll have bargaining power. My appraisal made me $6000 more in trade-in than they were originally going to give me. Ironically I stayed away from new at first but found out with rebates and year end special the new truck was discounted 8-9000 so it was only $4000 more for a new truck. Like someone else said "no brainier"
Enjoy

I don't know where you live. My deal, and dealer.........I ended up with a new truck and payments less than I had, no money involved in trade. I did, of course, replace the 2 years I had owned the 2500 with two new years on the new loan, but I got a newer truck by 2 years also. I guess I took a 'hit' in total $$, but payments are less, not more.
I also went from an SLT truck to a Denali dually, in the process.
But all dealers are not like this one, I realize.

If I were you I would get the bigger camper and cross my fingers everything works out on your truck.
What has always bugged me about campers is there are the over responsible guys who have a truck that is rated for twice the capacity of our camper (myself included). However, everytime I go camping you always see a mid 2000 chevy 1/2 ton pulling a 37' 5er..... When I see that I think to myself "REALLY" how does he even move that thing???

+1. I would deal with the truck issue once it appeared. Pulling a large 5th with your truck is not even close to some of the crazy stuff that others do.
Because you started with a used truck, I don't think your loss would be that great if you did need to upgrade at a later date. Dealers love low mileage trucks. Move the cool accessories to the new truck.

Just cannot agree to looking the other way if weights are over the certified label limits. If the weights are over they're over and you are not legal. I know this is soapbox but...
If you are running in this condition and have an accident of any type, your fault or the other persons, you may get away with being overweight but then again you may not. If you're overweight and personal injury of any kind has occurred good luck supporting another family financially for a long, long time.
I know it's done all the time but the question is do you really want to take that chance??

My truck is grey and the sticker is grey, and it was way down below the sill between the doors, as you said.

YEP!! been there for sure
BTW: just for grins try and get a dealership to get you a duplicate certified label for your truck because you think yours fell off. It's almost comical what their response is.

Don't forget this is about getting the new rig replaced and which one you select will determine what you do next. If you've been thinking of switching to a 5th wheel in the past there is really no better time than now to make that jump.
Knowing that replacement of the TV would need to occur because the rig is too heavy for your existing one is just part of the hobby.

With someone else's back scratcher!! I say get your truck weighed and then you'll know if you even have a problem or not. . .At this point I think it is all supposition that a problem even exists.

Dealer found me a leftover 2016 3500. They are running the numbers to see if it works and I should know something tomorrow.

The sticker on my 2015 was apparently put on while the printing was still wet as none of the unique information was readable. I asked them to replace the sticker. After multiple calls, I got them to agree. The dealer sent me my new sticker 8 weeks later. Opened the envelop and sticker was blank.

That just means you can print out whatever you want to on it and make it for your needs. Lol

Well I guess no one can say you're over weight then can they. 😎. What are the chances but you know it might be printer friendly.

Just my $0.02 worth, our old decrepit 2006 2500HD pulls our 5er with NOOO problems, AT ALL. It weighs 9k empty, I find it hard to believe that a newer, MORE capable truck would have a task at the 5er you mentioned. If the 3500 doesn't pan out I would go directly to a cat scale, top off your fuel tank and weigh it, then you will know EXACTLY what your pin weight can be. Me, in your situation, I'd find a 5er you wanted, within reason, and go for it! You wanted one anyway! Don't listen to the hype that a 2500 can't do this, and can't do that, weigh your truck and make it happen! You won't regret it.

Just a thought
before taking a bath on a trade up to a new truck to accommodate a bigger trailer, take the truck to a place that specializes in suspensions... we have a place around here that will replace springs or add a spring to give you a little more payload. I broke a rear spring on a truck, hauling about 2200#... took it there and for little more than just a fix it price, and a lot less then the tire store that noticed my broken spring quoted, they added 500# payload and rebuilt the whole rear suspension. Never had a problem hauling that load after that, which I did many times over the next 10 years.

I won't take a bath in it. If the numbers work and my payment does not increase nor the term of my loan than I will do it. If not I will keep what I have and do exactly what you just said. We have a place right down by where I work that does just what you describe.

Weight ~~ I was shocked when I pulled the tailgate off my 2016 F350. That thing with the built in step weighs a ton. Replaced it with a Husky 5er aluminum gate that weighs next to nothing. I suspect the much cheaper composite gates may weigh even less. I swapped tailgates day 2 of bringing the new truck home. I hook/unhook alone and the 5er gate makes the process go much smoother and saves time as well. Just have to connect the camera up again (beeper still works) one of these days.
