From OP post #1
Quote:
This is a mess and hope that everything turns out smoothly for me.
This whole episode started with human error, from day one on a camper that was not identified as yours to begin with because of the wrong VIN# on the paperwork. Paperwork that someone should have checked when it was SOLD.

Anyone that has ever had to deal with a stolen vehicle, an accident or a wrecked automobile or camper and has had to deal with an insurance company and police departments, not to mention a lawyer, is always out their time and effort trying to get their vehicle put back whole. Realistically, you are always out some meaningful $$$ in any insurance deal when all is said and done.

Personally I would count myself lucky that I got my "stuff" back the way it was when this started and was only out time and hassle. You actually did come away with a great story to tell around the campfire!

Think dealer owes you a nice option on them.

So I find out that I need to start with the originator, the dealership, who is now owned by Camping World, I call them they tell me tough cookie and i need to email this email address and someone from the former Tom Raper will get ahold of me. So far it has been a lot of BS and noone will call me, just send me a lot of crap emails and basically saying it is no big deal and that there is no way there is another camper out there with a VIN nearly identical to mine. I again asked for a call and he claims he has no cell service until next Wed as he out of town. HE wants a picture of the VIN from my camper, primtime is going to take this pic so I can send it to him. Irritated is me trying to be PC...I am starting to egt really POed

Wow what a mess sorry to hear about this.......... but people think I'm crazy but every time I buy a vehicle or trailer I check the vin number on the vehicle to make sure that it matches the paper work (or title). I have seen it three times in my ownership of vehicles that it did not always match. Walked on two of them.

Based on your posts over the last few days.........I would of already have called the type of person who takes care of issues by actions that are against the rules to discuss on this forum. Sometimes it ultimately comes to that......... unfortunately.

Well he is ready to go, all I have to do is say the word. he is up to speed on it all. I would have done lots of things differently from day one of this purchase but I live and I learn...albeit slowly.

I put down money at that same place to hold an RV for me a couple days before Labor Day and I was supposed to come and see it on the Tuesday after Labor Day.
I called them and told them I was coming and they said don't bother we can't find it we don't know if it's stolen or if someone took it for the long weekend.
They allegedly looked for it for days and told me they still couldn't find it, they would be filing a police report.
I don't know if they ever did or if it was going to be a bait-and-switch deal. I actually have the VIN number and was going to do the search to see if the RV ever transferred after I allegedly bought it.
Something is wrong there....

I think I would take this up with your local DMV registrar... changing registration & titles to reflect a wrongly recorded VIN #...

the dealer as you see is NOT going to be any help...

keep any correspondence that shows there was a mixup at the dealer to prove you have the right vehicle...

and unless the camper is in your possession, I doubt the DMV will do anything...

getting mad at this point is not going to get you anywhere... your beef is with a non-existent dealer and an unknown salesman/clerk

just my 2 cents...

Not a lawyer, but I imagine it is the owners responsibility to be sure the bill of sale matches the item bought.

Not assessing blame on the buyer, I have never checked. Just saying.

Missing camper

In PA you need a vin tracing to register a new vehicle in the state, they check to make sure it matches paperwork. Always thought this was a big hassle but after hearing this story I'm glad they do.

this is also my thought...

Last summer I purchased used truck in OH, but live in KY... STEP 1 was to take to county sheriff's office and have them verify the VIN# against the paperwork... took me 30 min and $15... I thought what a pain, but I guess there is a reason this is necessary.

We all live and learn...

Bought a used boat owner had since new...it was prolly 15 YO...went to register in my name and they said the SN was invalid. I had to take a rubbing of the SN to the Texas DMV and that's how they registered the boat.

Terribly sorry for your pain.

Funny insurance companies here have to verify the SN on motor vehicles in person to insure. I guess I see why.

Well think of it as your lucky day. Your "new" RV was probably loaded with refurbished appliances, discontinued items, and scratch and dent items. Knowing full well that the company was going to take a financial hit on this situation.

Well now that I think about it that might just be common practice.

not sure if this link will work, its from RV.net. but it sounds like their story is how yours is gonna end up.

I would suggest not wasting any time with CW and go right to the state government agencies to get this straightened out. CW has no motivation at all to make it right. you'll just be pissin' in the wind with CW. Good luck.

Another reason why, for me, CW is the store of last resort...

Have found none better than CW in Myrtle Beach. It depends on the location as all are run by different people.
