After the FR 2 year warranty was up (yes, we did use it and things were fixed as promised) we have spent about $140 to fix the fridge (by a mobile RV repair at the campground) and $36 to fix a shade (I installed). That's it after 4 years with about 9 months (about 270 days) of actual use of the trailer during camping. Compare that to your warranty cost. Our last trailer lasted 24 seasons and everything was still working when we traded it in. Only cost was the "not covered" wear and tear (like tires and bearing packs). If something goes bad, just think it through, get the right tools and parts, and proceed carefully. You should have no problem with most stuff and the stuff you can't handle take to your dealer.

An extended service agreement can be a good thing if a major item such as a fridge goes out. Some items can be quite expensive. But having said that, be sure and read the fine print. We just got burned. If within a 100 miles of the dealer, we are required to go to the dealer. Secondly does the selling dealer offer onsite service? We just found that ours does not. Thirdly, our contract excludes CA onsite service. We are from CA. We were with Good Sam previously, and planning on cancelling this contract and going back to Good Sam. Excellent service and choice of deductables.

Keep in mind that if an item such as a refrigerator is still under its own warranty, the service contract won't cover it under most circumstances. So, don't think you are getting full warranty on anything that may already have a warranty. The service contract would likely kick in only after it was determined that the item has run out of its own manufacturer's warranty. You may be getting less coverage than you think you are getting in a service contract, and you may have coverages (manufacturer's warranties) that you don't know you have.

I would recommend if you purchase a warranty not to buy from the dealer. My new Crusader came with the “FREE life time warranty” AKA as crap. This warranty requires a yearly inspection of your RV that you the RV owner is responsible to pay. Way I see it it’s a gimmick to generate work for dealers. My local dealer want’s $300 for the just the inspection and if they find anything on the inspection list like roof needs some lap sealant you can expect to pay out the wazoo for something you could have done for a few bucks. Received a call from the “life time warranty” folks told them I don’t want it, don’t call me again.

Purchased my own warranty that was significantly less than the one the dealership offered. I did buy the one the dealer offered while at the dealership because they knocked off 1% off my interest rate (win win for me) took time to read the fine print knowing I had 60 days to cancel the dealership warranty for a full refund and that’s exactly what I did.
Dealership warranty was $3800 for 5 year & tire plan was $600
Purchased the same warranty that covers more for $1615 for 5 years tire plan was $445
Dealer total price was $4400
Non-dealer total price was $2060

Big difference in price, purchased our warranty thru wholesale warranty’s nice folks. Purchased thru them because of my brother-in-law’s experience.
