Progressive EMS 50AMP's Hard to Install?

I purchased a Progressive 50AMP for our New to us Crusader 295. I am pretty handy and good with electric but are these hard to install? I see some videos where ppl say have extra electric cable laying around to Install these behind the Fuse Panel under the Pantry Cabinet.

I am sure I can figure this all out but want to see what others say.

Hardest part is getting the wires routed into the box. The 50A cord has THICK wires. I just install mine inline which means I'm usually standing on my head reaching through a small cubby hole trying to install the wires. If you add wire and get it into a position where it's easier to get to this wouldn't be so bad.

I am thinking about the HW version and have a question - Where about in the electrical circuit would you fit the EMS device if you have an onboard generator and inverter? OR is is just meant to protect for shore power problems?

Super easy to install, just some large gage wires to cut. I used a small bolt cutter and it worked great. Something else I did was to purchase two 50A range cords and outlets from Amazon and rigged it so I could eliminate the EMS if I ever needed to. Yes, there us a jumper inside the box that allows you to bypass it, but I like to have a manual option. At the transfer switch, I disconnected the shore cable and replaced it with one of the range cords. I then cut a short piece of cable off one range cord and used it to attach an outlet connected to the coach side of the EMS. On the shore side if the EMS, I installed the other range cord, then put the other outlet on the end of the shore cable. Then I plugged al of that together. This arrangement makes sure you never have an exposed hot connection and you can remove the EMS to connect the transfer switch directly to the shore cable if needed. Also gives you a detachable shore cable if you need to go dump or something and don't want to store the shore cable away to go. All of this fit neatly into the power compartment without any issues.

Just did mine the other day. It's fairly easy. Check out You Tube. You should have some slack in your cable. It's a little hard bending the 3" leads to make the connections. Placement is the hardest decision.. Good Luck

I put mine below the fuse panel. I like the idea of using the range cords and plugs. I may go back in and do that! Thanks for the idea.....now another mod to a mod......lol.

Just a small warning based on experience. During the install you will need to push the cables into the EMS and tighten them down. Make sure you push them enough to tighten but do not push the too far. This was done when mine was installed and by pushing the cable in too far it broke off a plastic finger on the plastic piece that protects the contacts. The broken piece got lodged in the contacts so that one pole would not tranfer power. The good news is that the progressive tech support diagnosed the problem over the phone and sent a replacement part

Easy to install. My progressive came with instructions on how to wire for generator and shore power. It is just a matter of where it is connected. I bought stranded 50 amp wire from Home Depot which made it easier to bend the wires in tight places.

Great Add-on

I believe in protecting your Motorhome/Camper. Installed the 50amp on my 2004 Phaeton. As said before, hardest part was dealing with the size of the cable. It's like wrestling a gator ! ! Personally, I wouldn't cut the current cable. Things always happen and I'd rather have a fudge factor and extra cable to work with.
