Recommend a Good CG Upsate NY

We are attending a wedding this July in Upstate NY, specifically near Rush NY. (South of Rochester) We would like to make this an opportunity to take a longer camping experience so I’m asking if anyone can tell of a nice campground near Rush / Honeoye Falls NY. The campground can be with utilities or a dry site, we have a generator available. My call goes out to forum member for a CG recommendation.
Thanks
Mr & Mrs Rustymax

I would recommend Letchworth State Park, near Castile, NY. They call it the grand Canyon of the East. Very scenic and very nice camping spots.

After camping south of Rochester, we recommend that you stop for a few days in Watkins Glen, NY. The New York Finger Lakes area is a favorite. There is a nice state park there with a scenic hike through the gorge. It is also NYS wine country with lots of vineyards and restaurants.

In Avon. NY stop at Tom Wahls Restaurant for a white hot.

I think the SP in Watkins Glen is Robert Tremaine (sp?) State Park. Rented a cabin there in my pre-TT days. Nice place, pet friendly, close to the wineries. Great fishing on either Seneca Lake (W.G) or Cayuga Lake (Ithaca.) Taughannock Falls SP is on the west shore of Cayuga Lake, beautiful gorge and waterfall (higher than Niagara!) but not sure about the size of their campsites for TTs, we had a popup back then.

The state park in Watkins Glen is Watkins Glen State Park. Very nice camping. It is at the southern of Seneca Lake. Robert Tremain State Park is outside of Ithaca, NY. They have a great swimming hole in the creek but camping is close together and not so nice. Taughannock Falls SP is north of Ithaca on the west side of Cayuga Lake. We have never seen their camping area. Finally, Buttermilk Falls SP is close to Robert Tremain SP - unsure about their camping.

In Corning, NY south of Watkins Glen has a nice glass museum that is worth a visit.

While the original poster was not really asking this - it is such a nice area I encourage everyone to visit there.

There is also a KOA in Watkins Glen that is nice. Another choice is the Darien Lake Campground at the Darien Lake Theme Park. Nice park and a good time for the kids. I also have to second both Watkins Glen and Letchworth. Beautiful scenery at both spots.

If you are looking for something like a KOA there is one outside of Canadaigua. That is closer to Rush than other places at the south end of the lakes. If you are going to spend some time and see the sites Watkins Glen and Ithaca have some beautiful places.

We have a Letchworth trip booked for August this year. We have never been there yet We love Watkins Glen. Yes the sites at must NY state CC are tight but the scenic hiking trails make up for it

What a nice group of people that belong to this forum. Thank you all for the CG tips. We will start our investigating of each recommendation and add each CG to my our "must visit" list, whether it be this summer or another.

It appears that Letchworth State Park would be the closest location.

Thanks

Rustymax, you will notice most of us are from Upstate NY. That's pretty much how folks are around here. Enjoy your stay here in one of the best kept secrets of the US.

My DW tells me the recepton will be at the
Aurora Inn, Aurora, NY on Lake Cayuga. I think it is an historic Inn.

Fillmore Glen State Park, south of Auburn, NY is close to the Aurora Inn area. Here is the information on the Park. http://nysparks.com/parks/157/details.aspx. Also the Parks near Walkins Glen would be within commuting distance of Ithaca, NY.

Sampson SP near Geneva NY is a nice ST. As stated before there is a lot to do in this part of the state. There are also many Amish stores in the Geneva area.

Depending on size of your rig you may be limited at some of the State Parks mentioned but fine at Letchworth or Sampson. Watkins Glen KOA can handle any size and is highly recommended if you want full hookups

Wow! Very good recommendations. So much near Rush NY, My DW said Rush NY but I looked up on a map as to where the reception is being held and it is a good way down the road from Rush. As I’m investigating that side of the state for CGs, I think it sure would be nice to continue on and hit the Adirondacks for a few weeks.
Just recently I have just decided to retire this year – burned out at 63. Got all the recipes for 7 ways to cook Alpo dog food, we are not rich but will survive. End of May should be just about the right time to kick off the summer camping season. Hmmmmm.. so now I must convince my wife that we need to make this a 4 week trip. Maybe I can bribe her. I fly fish (a lot) and there are some great streams in Adirondacks.
By the way – we tow a 2012 LaCrosse Limited Edition 303 RKS. Our very first TT, spent many years in a pop-up. I hope it won’t be too hard to find CG that can accommodate this size TT.
Thanks for all of the recommendation.

I think you will be ok at most parks. I have a 318 BHS now...before that I had a 38 foot fifth wheel Montana, never had a problem at any state park, but I was up in he 1000 islands mostly. The biggest sites supposedly were not long enough but when I would get there , found plenty of room. If your looking in the adirondacks I would check out old forge camping resort right in old forge...gorgeous up there...

The KOA near Lake Placid is one of our favorite campgrounds.
