Towing Crusader 295 with F150 SCREW EB 3.55 Towing ?

Ok so talked to a dealer about a used 2014 Crusader 295. The hitch weight is 1300, overall weight is 8400. My 2014 F150 has a max tow of 11,200, Payload of 1520. I am getting 10 Ply BFG tires and 2" spacers for front and 2.5" 5000# air lift for rear. Looking at these numbers I should be ok. I do not load my RV's heavy and try to balance them out keeping as much weight off the hitch as possible. Anyone running number like this?

Yeah 1520 but airbags add 5,000#'s of support so even with the 5er loaded up front I will still be able to tow this unit from all the numbers I see. I am also getting a Reese Slider 12.5K hitch if all goes well

Airbags do NOT add payload.
All they do is help level.

With your numbers, you only have 220lbs. left over, IF you have NO passengers, NO cargo and NO 5th wheel hitch.

Sorry, but no way you can do it without exceeding payload max.

I tow a 2014 295rst with a 2009 2500hd diesel. As much as I truly like the eb trucks I can't imagine towing my trailer with any less than the 365hp/665tq my truck has. It's a good match but I wouldn't be comfortable with less truck.

Yeah sticking with Roo 23ikss for now will get a used 2015 F350 6.7 in a year or two then upgrade, after crunching all my numbers I don't think I can do a 5er without at least an F350 Diesel

I was in the same boat as you until 2 weeks ago. I was towing a fiver with my F150 EB with same exact payload. I could not take my wife or dogs in my car without being overloaded. Driving in separate cars got VERY old. Now I have a 2015 F350 with all of the same Platinum features as my F150 and we are VERY happy. BTW, my F350 gets better fuel economy loaded and unloaded than my Max Tow Package F150 ever did.

Yeah I am looking at trying to get a deal on a leftover F350 Lariat CREW, 6.7, with SB and SRW. I am glad to hear it gets better Economy, but how are the new Power Strokes to maintain? I went with the F150 EB bc I use it as a daily driver and don't want more than one vehicle?

I looked at a 2016 but they won't move from the price that much? Found a Lariat 2016 sticker was $66,000 lowest they claim to come down is $60,000 to me that is not a good deal.

If you go to the powerstroke forum, you will see that folks are getting 10k off of the F350's at higher volume/discount dealerships. 60k IS a good deal for the dealer but not buyer.

A couple of weeks ago I did a google search and found several new left over '15 that were being blown out for 13k below MSRP. Not sure if they are around or not but I'm sure you may be able to find a very low mileage '15 and get that or more off of one.

I wouldn't use a F350 as a daily driver unless you have a decent highway commute. Diesels are better suited for long drives and being worked hard. Short trips don't mix well with the complicated emissions system and will cause you lots of grief!

I don't think maintenance is worse than a gasser. My other 2 vehicles are both diesels and I don't do much different than a gasser except I drain the water fuel separator monthly. Turbos get a warm up of 30 seconds to 1 minute and a 1 minute cooldown (5 minutes towing). Not sure where people think that diesels are complicated to maintain. They may be more expensive to repair if something goes wrong but regular preventative maintenance is no big deal.

I towed my 295 with a F250 6.2 gasser for about 10k miles before going diesel. I cannot imagine pulling it with a F150 no matter what engine.

My daily commute is 95% highway 100 miles per day 2 weeks a month, the rest of the time it sits at home and used for running errands. I am also looking at a slightly used 2015 I figure I should be able to get a 2016 roughly $66K for mid $50K range I would be fine with that Diesel by me is $1.52 per gal

That 1300# pin weight is very misleading. My 2013 295RST has pin weight of over 2200# with the trailer loaded and ready to camp. Add, that, hitch weight and passengers and you are WAY over GVW for your truck.

The biggest problem with towing a fifth wheel with a half ton is the pin weight. You will always end up using up or going over your payload capacity before you exceed your towing capacity or GCVW. It's one of the reasons I have a bumper pull trailer.

Airbags don't increase your payload. You are then still overloading the rating of your brakes and axles etc.

I get it problem is I can not justify the cost of a F series Diesel using it 30 nights a year to pull a 5er and a Daily driver. $10-20K less I can keep my EB F150 SCREW and just stick with my Roo. I hardly doubt there will be much of an MPG gain in a diesel driving 1,000 miles per month on the highway, my F150 is getting 21.5 on my 500 mile commute every two weeks so and paying $1.27 per gallon for reg unleaded I can't beat it.

For reference I am pulling a 295RST with my F150HD. It has a payload of 2177. I am 100% stock and have over 20,000 towing miles. Zero issues. My truck is Max Tow + HD Payload.

IMHO your truck is not suited to this combo. Your payload is your limiting factor largely speaking and there is nothing you can do to increase it. If you are determined to pull with a EB then I'd search for a truck better suited to haul the 295.

Do you have the bench seat in yours I can not order a new F150 with Max Payload and Max tow without getting a bench or 40/20/40 seat, I like the center console with shifter in the middle.
