What Truck To Buy
My wife said it would be okay to look at purchasing a new truck. Currently 2008 HD Silverado 2500, duramax LTZ with 102,000 miles. 2018 Crusader 35ft, about 8700 lbs. Thinking about a new Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 duramax with 10 speed, LTZ.
Looking to smooth out the ride. Anyone had experience with the new 3.0. Thoughts.

I'd stay with the 2500 HD, either Chevy or GMC. With a 35ft trailer, I'd rather have the beefier one.

Your 5th Wheel is way too much for that 1/2 ton, especially loaded pin weight. Using the standard 20% of GVWR for a ballpark loaded pin weight, it would be 2000lbs. I don't think any of those Chevy 1/2 ton baby Duramax trucks have payloads that high.

5th wheel. Half-ton. 35 feet. No way. Stick with the 2500. Get the right tool for the job.

I agree, no way on a 1500, go 2500 or 3500

I agree with Scotty Kilmer, you will be much more satisfied with a Ford Super Duty. GM quality is just not there.

A 2008 Duramax with 102k miles? If you put it up for sale, you will have a line of folks trying to steal it away from you!!! There are 5 Duramax trucks in my extended family. 4 are 2007-2008. Everytime any of us go anywhere, we get offers from folks wanting to buy them, and they all have at least 170k on them.
Keep the jewel you have. You will be sorely disappointed in any half ton......
Get an air ride hitch, change shocks and/or tires. Lots of ways to get a better ride other than selling and starting over with a TV.

Any of the 250 or 350s. Better brakes, more weight, more relaxed towing experience. On the GMs, very little ride difference to me between the 2500 and 3500.

Well, you asked,... 2018 Crusader 35ft, about 8700 lbs? With a 1500? Too much trailer according to the truck.

I couldn't agree more! Where's the like button???
Stick with what you have. If your wife gave you the okay for a new truck, then get a toy truck for fun around the town. Keep your current rig as the work horse.

Truck buying
I would stay with a 2500 but if you think that maybe in the future you may decide to up grade you would be better off going with a 3500 and have the piece of mind know you can tow almost any RV. Good luck and stay safe

Not to start a brand war --
I had 2 brand new Fords, 1986 F150 and a 2012 F250 Super Duty
I had major engine problems with both. I know some folks swear by them, some swear at them.
Same could probably be said for GMC & Chevy (never had a Dodge, so I can't/won't comment on them). sometimes you get the elevator, sometimes you get the shaft.

Best trucks I had were both GMC. 1994 1500 and a 2000 3500 dually.

Get a 2500HD. You will NEVER regret it. I bought a new 2008 and traded it in on a new 2018 2500HD. My only mistake is that we just bought a 2020 Cedar Creek Champaign so I will be looking for a 3500HD now.
Good luck on your new truck

I'm a Ford guy so I would lean you there, HOWEVER, this is what you want. I do have to agree with NMWildcat though, keep what you have if it's doing the job. Upgrade tires, suspension, whatever it takes. If you are a GM guy, the you really should stick with the 2500. Think about upgrading to the 3500 though. You won't go wrong and like mentioned, if you ever do get another rig, you will have the truck for it.
I had F150 with 30 foot 5th. Handled it but just didn't feel good with it. F250, handled felt better. Ended up getting a 42+ Wildcat 5er, Ended up too much for the F250 so now have F350DRW.
Bottom line, go with what you want just make sure it is capable of handling the job.

Get a 3500/350, especially if you are going diesel. You'll be glad you did.

I do know when I bought my Colorado last year, talking to one of the service dept mgr's.....none of them were too thrilled with the 3.0 Duramax in the 1500's
