Wheel Bearings

February is here. It's time to start getting the pre camping maintenance done. This is the first time I will pack the wheel bearings on my 5th wheel. I've greased a lot of bearings in my life so the actual packing of the bearings is not an issue. My question is what grease do I use. I've never worried about burning bearing do to cheap grease. Everything I've done has been light utility trailers and small boat trailers. Never a 12,000 Lbs 5th wheel.

What grease do the experts who have done this for years use? Can you post a link to your favorite place you buy it? I'm not lazy, I just don't like making stupid mistakes. I shoot myself enough in the foot as it is. I would like to try and eliminate sitting beside the interstate if possible.

Since you have hand packed your wheel bearings for years I would continue to use the same wheel bearing grease that has given you good service over the years! Youroo!!

I do appreciate you responding. What grease do you use or do you take your in for maintenance? I have thought about having it done but I'm not sure if I trust their mechanics to do it right. The local RV folks aren't sharpest tools in the shed.

I didn't see where your unit has "EZ Lube" axles! Also even if it is you seem as if you want to "Hand Pack"! Youroo!!

I recently replaced all of my wheel bearings with new USA Timken bearings. While I was ordering, I added two cans of Timken wheel bearing grease in my cart. Don't know how good it is, but figured it had the bearing manufacturer's name on the can it should work OK. Price was like $7.

There have been several threads on this and LOTS of opinions.

Here's mine...
This grease is sold by several of the large distributors of trailer axles and replacement parts.

I was asking an opinion on the subject. I have always hand packed in the past. But I have never hand pack a trailer with this much weight. I know a bearing is a bearing. But every bodies opinion is worth listening to.

It's better to learn lessons in the driveway then on the side of the road.

My TT is a year old. I've never repacked bearings before but I'm going to be tackling this project under the watchful eye of my dad towards the end of March as I prepare for our first outing of the season in mid-April.

Good for you.
Learning from my dad (RIP) has taken me a good long way down the road of life.

I have used Mystic RT 6 high temp red grease and it's very sticky if you use a bearing packer. I am now using Timken red high temp grease-very easy to work with. I think Walmart red hi temp grease is the same as Timken. Hand pack is the right way to go IMHO.

I agree with "5Picker". Sometime it's not always about the type but how often.
