Where to place jack when changing tire

While we're on the subject of safe jacking, and tire changing, let us not forget to retorque the lug nuts, both before the trip, and after the tire change. I carry a cheapy torque wrench just for that purpose. Accurate enough for lug nuts. You won't be singing that Glenn Campbell song, "You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel".

FYI

I was told by the parts manager at our dealership, so I can't confirm, that the rapid jack won't work if you have the "wide track" axles or however you describe it. Never tried a board ramp. Just a heads up for those that have the "wide track'. I'd hate for you to find it out on the side of the road.

Wondering if anyone can confirm this. I am just about to order one. I'm not sure what qualifies as a wide track axle. I have a Coachmen Freedom Express 248RBS.

I don't know what a wide track is but my hubs are 31 inches center to center and it works for me. In my muddy back yard I had to put a board under it. I have the bigger one of the two.

I have the wide axels, called EZ Tow they are 41 in apart. It will not work. On our SOB I used my leveling blocks to do the same thing, on this one, no go, not even close to lifting the other axle. You will need a Jack, or AAA RV. I have a Jack if I dont have cell service, but I have done side of the road trailer rocking enough times to not want to do it again.

Leveling system works great if you have it. If not, I put bottle jack the same place ependydad does. Worked good so far.

Typical wheelbases are either 33" or 35" for 14" and 15" trailers. Never heard of 31" before.

If you have some 2x6 leveling boards you can notch them half round out to match the axles to hold both axels and triple them up when jacking up. It would lift both wheels and support the weight and the notch would not harm your leveling abilities. This would be cheaper than the alternatives.

Just fired up the old tape measure and the hubs are still 31" so you can say you've heard of it now.

If you are referring to the corner stabilizer jacks on a TT you do not use them to level, only to stabilize. Which means you put some force on the jacks but you are not adjusting the level(ok, so the TT may move an eighth or quarter of an inch or so). If I am traveling through and can get level enough without unhitching I don't unhitch. Usually do not use stabilizers to save time, but I could and put about the same amount of force on each corner without attempting to change level.

My “wide track” is 42”. 15” tires.
