Alabama FROG

Or Ala-FROG for short!

Looks like there are LOT of new forum members from Alabama! How many would be interested in forming a FROG in Alabama? A rally sometime in the fall?

Post your comments and suggestions!

OK this is shaping up...LittlePM and I are in the Huntsville Area. Dogwood, you are in UCLA close to Rucker...so I will start looking for something in central AL

Any thoughts on dates?

And WHO here is going to Goshen? (we are)

My only request is please don't pick a date from Sept 11- 21, other then that I'm good. I do have several friends that are FROGs but don't use the forum, I will see if would like to join us. They are also from this area.

OK then - so Late SEPT-early OCT OR we could push it to mid-late Oct and do a Fall Colors campout!

Some pretty spectacular colors in North AL that time of the year...comments/thoughts?

Just took a look at the AL Fall Color trail and they are predicting anytime after 19 OCT for the best colors in North AL, with the peak being around the 26th.

So, based on this how many could make a 24-26 OCT Mini-Rally?

Also vote for WHERE you would like it:
Some of the better fall color parks are:
Monte Sano State park
Lake Guntersville S.P.
Bucks Pocket S.P.
DeSoto S.P.

Monte Sano is "on the mountain" above Huntsville and would afford some non-camping venues (Space & Rocket Center being one must see if you have never been to Huntsville)

All the other parks listed are "out there" so all activities would be limited to the C.G.

Once there's a date and location selected and someone to host the event, I'll be glad to help work with you on it as well as to get out an e-mail blast to al Alabama FROGs and those in surrounding states if you'd like. You also might want to take a look at the "sticky" post on hosting a FROG event.

I don't know that Monte Sano State park has 50amp service. DeSoto S.P. is beautiful, and I know that it is not a State Park but Smith Lake in Cullman is nice.

Cherokee, AL camper here

We would love to attend! Desoto Falls State Park is beautiful. It is in the north part tho!. It is sure a gorgeous RV Park.
October works best for us 2nd or 3rd week. Would love the excuse to take the Aviator out again. Count us in.

GREAT this is turning into a good thing(tm)

I am going to be speaking to FROG Bob at Goshen next week to coordinate how we can turn this into a good FROG Rally - originally, I wanted to do it just to get to know folks but now I am thinking of maybe getting a RV dealer (Dandy RV) involved as well. It WOULD be cool to do it as a fall colors campout!

More to follow after I talk to FROG Bob -- FROG Bob chime in if you like and please folks let me know if you are interested in attending.

My personal email is bob@williamsnet.org if you want to contact me direct.

So have we picked a place? the time sounds great. I will talk to one or two of the RV dealers here in town to see if they will give us some freebies for our outing.

I vote for Desoto as well. Monte Sano is nice but isn't full hookups like Desoto.

have another idea I am mulling over after Pennie messaged me and said some local RV dealerships would be willing to chip in some door prizes....

Maybe we can get a RV dealer to bring some FR demo units to the rally? If we do this though I will need to know how many are really comitted to coming to a rally sometime in the middle-to end of OCT.

Probably can't get a dealer to come if it is only gonna be 8 or 9 of us

If there are going to be 20+ though that also changes the calculus of *where* we can hold the rally...would start thinking of places like Smith Lake vice DeSoto SP.

Please reply and let me know
1. If you intend to attend in mid-to-late Oct
2. If you would like a RV dealer to demo units
or
3. If you just want a small rally where we will sit around, watch the leaves turn, and play some cornhole and ladder golf (Bocce optional )

We would certainly try to come. My vote is number 3. I wouldn't be too interested in having dealers sell to us on a camping trip. I bought ours from Dandy here in Birmingham but their parts department hasn't been the friendliest. Forest River on the other hand has been helpful when needed.
