Albuquerque Balloon Festival
Any progress or info on the status of the Balloon Festival this year? Has it be combined with another location?

2020 balloon festival planning
Planning to make to '20 balloon festival in Albuquerque. Does anyone have a list (short or long is ok) of CG's in or near the launch or flight path of the balloonists? Would like to spend the week so WES would be nice, but not mandatory.

We went Oct. 18, not camping, and had a great time! It’s a must see event. Plan to be there several days since the winds can prevent balloons from ascending on any particular day. Mass ascension days are great.
Here’s a link from a previous thread that might help answer your questions on camping, in particular see the link posted by ependydad towards the end

the balloon festival committee runs sire for hundreds if not thousands of rv's. look at their official web site. they range from dry camping to at least water and electric. don't know about sewer but the pump out service is readily available.
all sites need reservation and they sell out very fast! they open the reservations for the next year just a few days after the festival closes and you to be fast to get a space.

This is for the 2020 festival? If so then we can try for the '21 festival.

F.R.O.G. has a block of sites (maybe 25?) reserved for the October 2019 Balloon Fiesta. Bob has not opened up registration for this event yet. The last I heard, he was trying to decide if they would do the Balloon Fiesta as a stand-alone event or combine it with another event (as they did last year with the Grand Canyon trip) and make it kind of a "rolling" rally.
[The quote below is from the FROG web site]
2019 ALBUQUERQUE BALLOON FIESTA
October 9-14, 2019
FROG will be returning to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta for 2019. We've secured 26 water/electric sites (30 amp) at the Rally Park.
We've not yet determined whether this will be a stand-alone event, or if it will be tied to other locations as was done for 2018.
Registration is not yet open, and will be announced well in advance, but we wanted to give everyone a "heads up."

If you are going in 2020, you can make reservations on the official balloon festival site starting on Oct. 22nd this year.
https://balloonfiesta.com/RV-Information
We camped on the festival grounds. It's a large gravel parking lot without any hookups unless you reserve with one of the tour groups that bring their own power and water hookups. Grey and black water can be pumped out with a 'honey wagon'.
When we camped there, the ballons went directly overhead ... although the class A that had a balloon land on top of it were not very happy. One of the landing spots was in a field next to the rv parking. They have shuttle busses that take you directly to the launch area.
We'd do it again in spite of the obnoxious sound of very noisy generators attached to the trailers behind us.

BTW, the sites that F.R.O.G. reserves are water and 30 amp electric. They are ~1/4 mile from the launch field, with buses that pick at the ends of the rows and deliver you to and from the launch field. On a couple of mornings last fall, the balloons came directly over the top of our units, with a few even landing in the camping area, between rows of RVs. It is a spectacular sight, and if you have a chance to go, you really should.

Albuquerque balloon fiesta / durango, co registration opens saturday, 6/26
REGISTRATION OPENS SATURDAY, 6/29 AT 12:00 NOON EDT
Come and join FROG for autumn in the Rockies in beautiful Durango, Colorado. You'll share in the fun of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, including attending a Cowboy Humor Performance; ride the rails on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad; and share in great food and great fun with fellow FROGs.
On your own, you might want to explore the ancient cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park; stand in four states at Four Corners; or just relax in the spectacular setting as the aspens drape the mountains in their brilliant cold color.
From there we're off to New Mexico for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta! We'll be in the hookup section (30 amp electric and water) of the Balloon Fiesta Park with free shuttles to the Launch Field available. WEATHER PERMITTING, there are four mass ascensions, three balloon glows and fireworks shows, and other entertainment scheduled during our stay. We'll include tickets two two of the sessions for each person in your RV, with additional tickets available at the gate.
On Friday we'll take a bus tour to Acoma Pueblo ("Sky City"), an ancient community situated atop a large mesa and continuously inhabited since the 12th century. On the way back to Albuquerque we'll enjoy a buffet lunch. On Sunday, we'll ride the aerial tram to the top of Sandia Peak to enjoy the expansive views of Albuquerque and the surrounding area, and enjoy lunch atop the peak. From there we're off to Old Town Albuquerque to tour the original Plaza and the surrounding area.
REGISTRATION OPENS ON SATURDAY, JUNE 29 AT NOON EASTERN TIME. You'll want to move fast -- last year the trip filled in under two minutes.
To get complete information and to register on Saturday, go to FROG Events: Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and click the "Register for this Event" button.
Hope to see you there!

Reverse Snowbird, the area where we'll be has 30-amp power and water provided by the Balloon Fiesta. We don't bring our own power or water supplies. It's the same area where we were in 2012 and again in 2018.

Registration opened at noon today and the sites were quickly snapped up.
Several people reported going in and seeing a message that all of the tickets were in the process of being sold. That occurs because someone had selected a ticket, which is then taken out of inventory for 20 minutes to allow time for the person to complete the registration process. It's the same way that tickets are handled for the FROG International Rally and for all other events for which we use online registration.
If the process isn't completed in the time allowed, or if the person just quits and logs out, the ticket is returned to inventory and is again available. That almost never happens.

No. There’s one a mile or two down Alameda Blvd at a gas station. I think it’s the Chevron, if I recall.
Otherwise, they have a pump out service for $25.

This station you mention, is potable water available there?
I would like to fill-up somewhere close before going in.
Thanks

I don't recall. I do believe there are free fillup stations offered at the Balloon Fiesta RV parking area that you can stop at on your way in. They also had spigots various places for filling containers to take back to your rig.
We cheated, though.. we were parked across the street from the electric+water spots and just ran a hose every once in a while and filled up 2-10 rigs at a shot.

We'll all have 30-amp electricity and water at our sites. The only thing we won't have is a sewer.
