The Solar Eclipse Rally begins 1 week from today. The actual Solar Eclipse will be in 8 days!

Why is the Great American Eclipse so special?

This will be the first total solar eclipse in the continental U.S. in 38 years. The last one occurred February 26, 1979. Unfortunately, not many people saw it because it clipped just five states in the Northwest and the weather for the most part was bleak. Before that one, you have to go back to March 7, 1970.

It is the first one to be seen coast to coast in the U.S. since 1918

Also, its path of totality makes landfall exclusively within the United States, making it the first such eclipse since the country's independence in 1776. (The path of totality of the eclipse of June 13, 1257, was the last to make landfall exclusively on lands currently part of the United States.)

And of course the number 1 reason it is so special: It is occurring during a FROG Rally!

Due to the area being packed with solar eclipse tourists it is recommended you buy tickets for any activities in advance.

On edit- I just tried to buy them for the lost sea but the only day they are pre-selling them for is the actual Solar eclipse day. Groups of 15 or more get a discount. We have 4 going. Anyone else interested?

Checked with the DW, we are also interested. We arrive in Sweetwater on Saturday, so either Sunday or Tuesday is good for us.

Ok so RJ and DW, Al and DW, myself with DH and 2 kids equals 8. We still need 7 more for the group rate. Even if we don't get the group rate, we can all go together.

If you are stopping at a state park in KY make sure you have extra water hose and power extension cord. It can be a long way for hookups. Ask me how I know.

Strange about the hail. Not one hailstone fell in the Northeast 1 lot.

We visited Lost Dead several years ago and I remember it being quite a hike up hill coming out. I called and here is the conditions, a half mile down to sea, same half mile back, dirt pathway I has elevation change of 140 feet. They do not recommend folks with limited walking to try it. Mobility scooters are not recommended as well due the elevation rise on uneven ground. Not sure they get around ADA! Other wise it is a great tour, seeing fish swimming by sound, they have no eyes due to sunlight. Sorry we are out on this one!

At some point during every day you suddenly realize nothing else productive is going to happen the rest of that day. For me, that usually happens around 9 am.

Mentioned to FROG at the Goshen Rally, his new job was to bring sone GOOD weather down with him. He just laughed! Nashville forecasters are getting more hopeful on clear weather as well.

Ok so Sunday it is. We now have 12 for the group rate (kids 4 and under are free).

Regular rate prices: adult $19.95, child (5-12) $10.95, under 4 free

Group rate prices (groups of 15 or more): adult $17.95, child $9 under 4 still free.

Once I have 15 or more, I can call ahead to try to reserve for us.

Anyone still looking to buy or replace their own solar eclipse glasses. This site still had some as of 10:30 pm tonight. They are charging $25/ 3 pack plus $13 for 2 day shipping. Daylight sky is on the safe list for their plastic glasses only. https://www.daylightsky.co.uk
