Check the emails, we are leaving in the am to Sweetwater
Here's the e-mail that we received regarding the glasses that Cindy and I purchased and have available for anyone who wants them:

Quote:
Please find the documents attached. One or more of the attached documents are testing results for the glasses you purchased from Gearhub. I just received these new testing results last week, so it is very current... they are new tests from the certified lab in the USA for testing eclipse glasses for ISO certification. You will note that the glasses exceed the transmission filtering standard, and the glasses are somewhat darker than ISO's filter maximum (i.e. it filters more light than recommended)... They are slightly "dimmer" for viewing, but the sun is clearly visible with these just like any other eclipse glasses as an "orange circle"...

Here is what ICS labs stated regarding the light transmittance protection provided by the glasses:

All three of your models provide the required light attenuation protection as required by the standard, but have transmittance lower than the standard allows for (are too dark) and hence fail to comply with the transmittance requirement of the standard.

The glasses therefore fail the ISO 12312-2 testing for the fundamental reason that they are too dark, and are not certifiable. The manufacturer guaranteed and repeatedly assured that the glasses passed ISO testing, but we have now taken steps to do this additional testing to be absolutely sure about the real transmittance specifications for these glasses, and they are concluded to be darker than ISO recommendations.

Thanks for your patience as we are working to resolve customer issues with the safety concerns that have arisen.

Thanks.

Just got off the phone to the camp ground and they could not verify if RJ was getting the glasses from cg or if he had an out side source he bought from. Later RJD

I just spoke with the KOA campground and the confirmed to me that the glasses they have do contain an ISO Certification Number but DO NOT have a manufacturer's name on them. Dory, went on to say they will be giving them away and they too will be using them. She said they tested them by looking at the sun....Uhhhm. I would not trust my vision to those glasses. Sorry for the bad news folks.

Last chance if somebody wants some glasses. Heading out in about 45 minutes. Those that have my cell can call me if you get this too late.

I will check again just before we leave

Talked to RJ short time ago. The glasses he is furnishing are ones Frog Bob will be bringing so no need to use the ones furnished by the cg. However after talking to RJ sounds like the solar glasses are good to use as long as they have no scratches and not bent. Even the ones the cg has they said that all staff members will be using even tho Amazon sent them a notification they may not have the certification numbers. They will be free to all campers. So I think we all are good to go with the glasses. Later RJD

Just spoke to FROG Bob and he has 70 pair of glasses for the rally. He has checked, the glasses are good to go! He and Cindy are arriving on Saturday. Unable to contact RJ via phone. He does not subscribe to the forum as far as I know.

Sorry to raise a flag about email, we are leaving in an hour, no glasses to be found in this area. Local tv has everyone all amped up, schools are letting out or giving excused absence for event. Local science museum bought 30,000 sets and were down to under 10,000 with a line out the door on Wednesday. Sweetwater is expecting upwards of 10,000 for the event. Going to get into cg, hunker down till event is over. Traffic will be a nightmare.

RJ, look at time stamps, we were both posting at the same time. Did not mean to step on your post. Had great concern over certified glasses. A lot of counterfeit ones out there being sold at very high prices due to what is starting to be a shortage. When I sent out post, we were an hour or so from leaving for cg and uncertain as to status of glasses.

On another note nice cg, a bit tight and hilly. They have done a good job on most sites to cut down elevation. Should be a great time, there are two others in cg flying FROG banners!

The good news.... We arrived about 5:00 PM from the Mammoth Cave area. Also we have 2 more adults and 4 more kids between 5 and 10 for the Lost Sea.

Now for the bad news...after hooking up my toad for towing about 2 dozen times, somehow this morning I forgot to take the manual transmission out of gear. Checked it twice before leaving the campground and once about 2 miles down the road because it was jerking when taking off. 2 miles down I-65 it caught fire and was toast by the time the fire dept. showed up.

I managed to get it unhooked from the motorhome, pulled the hood release and got the brake buddy out. Moral of the story, from now on I am keeping a laminated check list in my pocket and checking it.

The car only had 13,000 miles on it. There were a few things inside including a $1,300 back brace, a new 22' flag pole purchased at Goshen and a few other things. Nobody was hurt and everything is replaceable.

When I booked I was told they were putting me in 43B. Does anyone know if the other half of that pull through has arrived? I have bikes on the back of the trailer and wondering if I'm going to need to take them off at registration or will have room to do it at the site (the fiver is 40' without the factory bike rack down). Thanks.

Bill so sorry about your situation, but so glad everyone is safe. See you tomorrow afternoon. I'm in 42A. How was the traffic as you got closer to the campground?

Thanks. You don't have to check tonight, I can peek in during pit stops tomorrow.
