Caravan Travel
Is it common for a Wagon-master to wavier from a published itinerary? A recent caravan I participated in the Wagon master informed the group the miles on the tail end of the itinerary were too long between stops. He decided to stay longer and make more frequent stops. I was left in the Yukon Territory 900 miles and 5 days before the itinerary was complete. Keep in mind this was his itinerary.. The caravan was all Forest River Owners.
I would advise anyone participating in a caravan to know their wagon master well. Perhaps have an established contract with your wagon master.
Ensure the funds are transparent with a financial statement provided routinely.
I learned the hard way. I am now a one caravan and done Forest River Owner.

Was the wagon master affiliated with Forest River or did all the participants happen to be FR owners?

It's not clear to me how the Wagonmasters change to the itinerary left you "in the Yukon Territory 900 miles and 5 days before the itinerary was complete." You also mention payment issues, but provide no details.
Frankly, I would not know what to look out for in reading your post.

I’m sorry rockfordroo. He informed the group in the Yukon Territory he would not be continuing with the caravan. One would think if you were the wagon master you would finish the itinerary you created for the caravan with the caravan. We were left to continue the journey on our own. There was no full disclosure on the money in and out as promised. Yes, I believe this wagonmaster does organize FROG rallies. Read below and you can see the post for Alaska Travelers 18. I was asking the forum, is this a common practice for caravans?

These forums are not associated with Forest River. Nor are there any Caravans associated with Forest River.

YEP!
I don't know of any Caravans sponsored by FROG or FR.
Must have been a member suggestion.

Did he leave the caravan or just change the itinerary to stops that you didn’t want to make?
No it is not normal for a wagon master to leave before the itinerary is completed but a change in itineraries isn't unheard of.

I just looked at his post from 1-25-2018 and he said the itinerary was going May 9, 2018 until July 15, 2018. That was yesterday.

The caravan may not be associated with Forest River however the post was on the forum. Copy of itinerary I have in my possession does reflect 17 July. I’m pulling into my last stop. 2 days. Oakman we were not asked for input. We were informed. It sounds as if you just take a chance when you caravan. Lesson learned!

This caravan was not forest river forum, FROG or Forest river sponsored. It was organized by one person. It sounds like your issue is with him.

Wow, I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with the caravan. I hope you’re making the best of the situation. As bikendan pointed out the caravan you’re on isn’t sponsored or associated with the Forest River Forum or FROG. It was just a member organizing an event on his own, posting it on the forum, and then apparently screwing it up.
Since your wagon master has organized a local FROG rally in the past I can see how you would think the caravan was another FROG event. I think you’re more than justified in being ticked off.

It certainly sounds as though he was not experienced in what he took on. I assume you had to pay a fee to participate. How was he on the other deliverables?

I have no issue or argument with anyone. Just sharing my experience. If your scroll button work scroll down and read “last call for Alaska travelers” Yes I DO understand it is not a Forest River caravan. I trusted a rally organizer would be a man of his word

Cedarcreekwoody we did pay a 200$ fee. We were told we would have premium sites. Some sites we were assigned were low amps. Meanwhile the wagonmaster and friends set on full hookups. Often we were in a site too small for our rig. Sites were to be assigned by rig size. We found that to not be true. We were to trade travel times among pods which never occurred. Two rigs were damaged due to assignments. The accounts receivable and payable were not transparent nor did we receive a final statement as promised. We seen him confront more than one park owner. Totally embarrassing.

Yes please don't think all FROG rallies are like this. Lots of great FROG rallies around the country. Also, from what I understand, FROG Bob does a great job with his FROG caravan trips. Please don't swear off all group events on one bad experience. I am sorry it didn't go as planned. I hope you and the organizer can find a way to work things out.

Okie I'm not being critical but rather trying to understand as I've never looked at a caravan. The link you mentioned says the cost was $5,000 for a full participant. What did you get for $200? Were you a tag along and not a participant? Did the full participants get preferential treatment? I would expect they would. For tagging along with a group for that long for $200 doesn't sound like a bad deal (if I'm understanding all of this.) I like the idea of safety in numbers and confidence in an unknown route with such a major trip as that. Am I misunderstanding?
