Thanks!
It's usually almost possible to get a Friday or Saturday night site during the Holiday Festival of Lights, which is why we go in on Sunday and leave on Friday. Occasionally there's a last minute cancellation, but they're rare. We usually spend go to Oak Plantation on Savannah Highway (US 17) before and after the HFOL Rally.

One month out. Talked with the Wags and Purrs and have arranged for pet walking on Monday and Thursday.

Check-in is at 1:00, and we suggest being there by 3:00 so you can stop by our site (#35) to register after you check in at the office and get your site assignment. Dinner is at 5:00 in the campground's activity center, followed by a shuttle tour through the lights for those who want to go. We'll be in small shuttle buses, so will have to go in smaller groups.

We made it here to Oak Plantation about 3pm. We’re in site 3.

"Nearly uneventful"? What's up?

We should be in around 3-4PM depending on Atlanta traffic getting out of here.

Been an educational and exciting trip so far!

1) Saturday 0700: Pulled out and found that we had forgotten the EZpass and Handicap Tag in the DW's car. Luckily we were only 10 minutes from the house and a minute away from getting on the turnpike when we realized it. The turnaround was more exciting than I like that early in the morning on a busy street.

2) Sunday 0700: Went to hook up and I had a "Check Trailer Brakes" error on the driver info center. I initially ignored it and figured it would go away once we were hooked up to the camper. It did not and no amount of plug jiggling would clear the error and we truly had no trailer brakes. Several very colorful words later, I just shut off the truck and let us both cool down. I restarted the truck and it fixed itself, so off we went.

3) Monday about noon, we are aboard the bus getting ready to go from the Carriage ride through Charleston to the Fort Sumpter tour when Bob and Cindy get frantic calls from the Dog Walker service that Freya the Wonder Dog teleported through the walker's legs and took off for parts unknown.

Freya cleverly avoided everyone's attempts to recapture her and was last seen about a quarter mile from the campground proper (though still on the park grounds).

The dog service drove into town to pick us up and take us back to the campground. The park ranger drove us in a golf cart to the area where she was last seen. I walked to the edge of the dense wood and called her name and told her its time to go home.

No one was more shocked than me when she slunk out of the woods and ran into my arms when she spotted me. She was terrified and shaking like a leaf. A HUGE sigh of relief was felt by all. After a nice hot bath she was good as new.

Bob arranged to have my Sumpter tickets refunded so we will try again to just do Sumpter on Wednesday (our "self" day).

We can't WAIT to see how tomorrow goes!
